Threshold and efficiency of optical parametric oscillation in whispering gallery resonators have been predicted to depend strongly on the coupling strength. Our experiments, varying the coupling strength continuously over 3 orders of magnitude, confirm these predictions. The pump threshold changes by a factor of 20, allowing the adaptation of the system to a wide range of input powers. The minimum threshold of 0.20 mW occurs for significant pump undercoupling. The efficiency increases monotonically with coupling, spanning 4 orders of magnitude with a maximum efficiency of 30% in contact yielding output powers exceeding 1 mW.

Background: Patients with typical reflux symptoms and normal acid exposure time (AET) are classified as either reflux hypersensitivity (RH) or functional heartburn (FH), some of whom respond to proton pump inhibitors (PPIs). We determined if esophageal psychophysiological parameters predict PPI response in symptomatic RH and FH patients.

Clarithromycin, a common antibiotic found in domestic wastewater, persists even after treatment and can transfer to soils when treated wastewater (TWW) is used for irrigation. This residual antibiotic may exert selection pressure, promoting the spread of antibiotic resistance. While Predicted No Effect Concentrations (PNECs) are used in liquid media to predict resistance risks, PNEC values for soils, especially for clarithromycin, are lacking.
