Objective: To measure the peripheral serum levels of CC-chemokine ligand-18 (CCL-18) in patients with pneumoconiosis, and to investigate the feasibility of the index asa potential biomarker for pneumoconiosis.
Methods: Seventy-seven male patients with pneumoconiosis (stage 1:40 cases, stage 2:22 cases, stage 3:15 cases), including 42 cases of silicosis and 35 cases of coal worker pneumoconiosis, were enrolled as subjects, and 162 healthy male physical examinees in our hospital were used as controls. A fasting blood sample (3 ml) was collected from the peripheral venous blood of each patient or control. The CCL-18 concentration in serum was measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA).
Results: The serum CCL-18 concentrations of the patients with pneumoconiosis were significantly higher than those of the controls [(116.70 ± 82.85) ng/ml vs. (83.34 ± 64.83) ng/ml]; (Z = -2.389, P < 0.05). The serum CCL-18 concentrations of the patients with silicosis were significantly higher than those of the patients with coal worker pneumoconiosis (147.02 ± 93.32 ng/ml vs. 96.43 ± 47.19 ng/ml; Z = -3.030, P < 0.05). There were no significant differences in serum CCL-18 concentration among different stages of pneumoconiosis (P > 0.05). The degree of respiratory impairment was positively correlated with the serum CCL-18 concentration in patients with pneumoconiosis (r = 0.611, P < 0.01).
Conclusion: Serum CCL-18 level can be used as a potential biomarker for pneumoconiosis.

Introduction: Adipose tissues synthesize and secrete various proinflammatory and anti-inflammatory mediators, termed cytokines. This work aims to assess different serum and urinary cytokine levels before and 12 months after laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG).
Patients: This prospective study was performed on 61 obese non-diabetic patients who underwent LSG.

Background: Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) is one of the most common metabolic disorders seen in women of the reproductive age group, with the majority of them having insulin resistance. There is a need to identify sensitive markers of insulin resistance. CC chemokine ligand 18 (CCL 18) secreted from white adipose tissue is upregulated in individuals with insulin resistance.

This study aimed to investigate the association between serum concentrations of chemokine (C-C Motif) ligand 18 (CCL-18) and interleukin 23 (IL-23) and clinical parameters of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). The serum concentrations of CCL-18 and IL-23 were tested by enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). The association between their concentrations and clinical parameters of COPD patients were analyzed by linear regression, logistic regression and ROC curve.

Here, we investigated the value of CCL-18 and CX3CL1 in diagnosis and prognosis of patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and chronic cor pulmonale (COPD&CCP).
Methods: First, we investigated the expression profile of CCL-18 and CX3CL1 in serum of COPD&CCP patients.

Objective: To determine the performance of 3 circulating markers for the diagnosis and the progression of interstitial lung disease (ILD) associated with rheumatoid arthritis (RA).
Methods: Serum concentrations of 3 circulating markers, lung epithelial-derived surfactant protein D (SPD), chemokine CCL-18 and Krebs von den Lungen-6 glycoprotein (KL-6), were measured by ELISA in consecutive patients with established RA. These patients were recruited from 3 tertiary centers and they all had been investigated by chest high-resolution computed tomography (HRCT).
