Starch nanoparticles (StNPs) were acylated under ambient conditions to obtain various nanosized derivatives formed stable suspension in water and soluble in organic solvents. The degree of substitution (DS) was determined using (1)H NMR technique. The cytotoxicity potential of the derivatised StNPs was evaluated in mouse embryonic fibroblast (3T3L1) cells and A549 tumor cell line using MTT cell viability assay. Other parameters that determine the oxidative stress viz., reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation, intracellular reduced glutathione (GSH), superoxide generation and acridine orange/ethidium bromide staining were also investigated. The present study led to the conclusion that cytotoxic activity of acylated starch nanoparticles was dependent on their dosage, DS and type of substitution. The non-toxic nature in non-cancerous cells reveals that the nanoparticles (NPs) can be used for cancer therapy and drug delivery. The nanoparticles also offered reasonable binding propensity with CT-DNA.

In this paper, zein-carboxymethyl starch (CMS) nanoparticles were prepared by antisolvent precipitation method to improve the stability of rutin (RT). The encapsulation efficiency, loading capacity, oxidation resistance, structural properties were evaluated. The results showed that electrostatic, hydrogen bond and hydrophobic interaction were the main driving forces for the formation of nanoparticles.

Purpose: The main purpose of the study was the formulation development of nanogels (NHs) composed of chondroitin sulfate (CS) and low molecular weight chitosan (lCH), loaded with a naringenin-β-cyclodextrin complex (NAR/β-CD), as a potential treatment for early-stage diabetic retinopathy.
Methods: Different formulations of NHs were prepared by varying polymer concentration, lCH ratio, and pH and, then, characterized for particle size, zeta potential, particle concentration (particles/mL) and morphology. Cytotoxicity and internalization were assessed in vitro using Human Umbilical Vein Endothelial Cells (HUVEC).

The development of a sensitive and selective silver nanoparticle assay for the quantitation of vitamin C (SNaP-C), as ascorbic acid (AA) and total ascorbic acid (TAA = AA + dehydroascorbic acid, DHAA), is described. Three assay parameters were investigated and optimized: (1) synthesis of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) to produce a reliable enhanced localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) in the presence of specific added antioxidants; (2) ensuring long-term stability of AA and DHAA in aqueous solutions; and (3) SNaP-C assay conditions to allow for rapid analysis of samples (beverages) by monitoring the enhanced LSPR. The synthesis of AgNPs using soluble starch as a capping agent and d-arabinose as a reducing agent was optimized in a CEM Discover SP laboratory microwave.

The increasing reliance on electronic devices has created a pressing demand for high-performance and sustainable electromagnetic interference shielding materials. While conventional materials, such as metals and carbon-based composites, offer excellent shielding capabilities, they are hindered by high costs, environmental concerns, and limitations in scalability. Polysaccharide-based materials, including cellulose, chitosan, and alginate, represent a promising alternative due to their biodegradability, renewability, and versatility.

Catalytically active nanomaterials, or nanozymes, have gained significant attention as alternatives to natural enzymes due to their low cost, ease of preparation, and enhanced stability. Because of easy preparation, excellent biocompatibility, and unique optoelectronic properties, gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) have attracted increasing attention in many fields, including nanozymes. In this work, we demonstrated the applicability of beta-cyclodextrin functionalized gold nanoparticles (β-CD-AuNPs) as enzyme mimics for different substances, including TMB and DA.
