A self-administered hand diagram has been developed to assist in the evaluation of upper extremity paresthesias. A rating system was devised to classify diagrams into four categories: classic, probable, possible, or unlikely carpal tunnel syndrome. Diagram ratings of 63 patients (85 hands) evaluated in a hand clinic were compared with diagnoses established independent of diagram results by objective clinical criteria. The sensitivity of diagrams rated classic or probable was 80% and specificity was 90%. We conclude that the hand diagram is valuable in the diagnosis of carpal tunnel syndrome among patients with upper extremity paresthesias.

It is well recognised that endothermic processes such as dehydration and partial melting have the potential to exert measurable effects on the maximum temperatures reached in metamorphic rock systems. We show migmatitic metapelitic and mafic granulites record temperatures of ~ 820 °C, while spatially associated refractory Mg-Al-rich granulites record temperatures between 865 °C and > 920 °C. These thermally contrasting samples are separated by ~ 1500 m, with no apparent intervening faults or shear zones to explain the apparent difference in peak metamorphic conditions.

Recently, robust d-wave superconductive (SC) order has been unveiled in the ground state of the 2D t-t^{'}-J model-with both nearest-neighbor (t) and next-nearest-neighbor (t^{'}) hoppings-by density matrix renormalization group studies. However, there is currently a debate on whether the d-wave SC holds up strong on both t^{'}/t>0 and t^{'}/t<0 cases for the t-t^{'}-J model, which correspond to the electron- and hole-doped sides of the cuprate phase diagram, respectively.
