Two isomeric two-dimensional copper(I) coordination polymer materials based on an in situ generated 5-(3-pyridyl)tetrazole ligand show similar layer structures but distinct photoluminescent and photocatalytic properties, which present an interesting comparative study on the structure-property correlation between isomeric materials.

This paper describes the synthesis and characterization of liquid crystals based on loop-shaped cationic copper(I) complexes of a multidentate ligand. Their synthesis involves the one-pot reaction of an alkyloxy-decorated pyridine-aldehyde unit with a diamine (2,2'-(ethylenedioxy)bis(ethylamine)) spacer to form in situ a pyridine-imine quadridentate-N-donor ligand, L, which is able to chelate a copper(I) center associated with various noncoordinating anions. All of these compounds were characterized by NMR, IR, and electronic absorption spectroscopy, and more particularly by X-ray diffraction and mass spectroscopy, enabling unambiguous assignment of the [ML] mononuclear nature of the cationic components.

A coordination polymer, [Cu(SCN)(iqi)] (iqi = isoquinoline), containing copper(I) thiocyanate and a nitrogen-containing π-conjugated ligand, iqi, has been synthesized and its physical properties were evaluated. This coordination polymer has a two-dimensional (2D) sheet structure consisting of copper(I) thiocyanate and shows photoluminescence derived from MLCT and photoconductive properties.

Article Synopsis
  • The text discusses the creation of three new types of low-cost and recyclable catalysts for converting carbon dioxide into useful compounds called epoxides, addressing a significant challenge in environmental chemistry.
  • These catalysts, known as JNM-13, JNM-14, and JNM-15, are made from copper(I) cyclic trinuclear units within metal-organic frameworks, with JNM-15 having the highest concentration of copper sites.
  • JNM-15 not only demonstrated the best CO adsorption capabilities but also achieved impressive catalytic results, converting CO into epoxides with yields up to 99%, effective use with various substrates, and maintained activity over four cycles.

Graphene oxide (GO) membranes are emerging for water treatment. Meanwhile, challenges remain due to membrane fouling and their instability in aqueous solutions. Herein, a novel GO-based mixed-dimensional membrane with superior antifouling and nonswelling properties was prepared by assembling two-dimensional (2D) GO nanosheets and zero-dimensional (0D) copper(I) oxide-incorporated titanium dioxide photocatalyst (CT).

A Photosensitizing Metal-Organic Framework as a Tandem Reaction Catalyst for Primary Alcohols from Terminal Alkenes and Alkynes.

College of Chemistry and Materials Science, Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of Functional Supramolecular Coordination Materials and Applications, Jinan University, Guangzhou, Guangdong, 510632, P. R. China.

Owing to the wide and growing demand for primary alcohols, the development of efficient catalysts with high regioselectivity remains a worthwhile pursuit. However, according to Markovnikov's rule, it is a challenge to obtain primary alcohols with high yields and regioselectivity from terminal alkenes or alkynes. Herein, we report the synthesis of a photosensitizing two-dimensional (2D) metal-organic framework (MOF) from cyclic trinuclear copper(I) units (Cu-CTUs) and a boron dipyrro-methene (Bodipy) ligand.
