An automated multiple peptide synthesis method to synthesize, cleave, and purify several peptides simultaneously in a single batch has been developed. The technique is based on the synthesis of multiple peptides on a single solid phase support and is easily adapted to manual or to automated methods. The approach relies on coupling of amino acid mixtures to the resin and it has been found that DCC/HOBt gives the best coupling performance. Fast Atom Bombardment Mass Spectrometry (FAB-MS) was used to rapidly and efficiently identify the peptides in each synthetic mixture which significantly assisted the purification process by HPLC. The method has been successfully applied to the synthesis of magainin 2 and angiotensinogen peptides.

Mass spectrometry imaging (MSI) serves as a valuable tool enabling researchers to scrutinize various compounds, peptides, and proteins within a sample, providing detailed insights at both elemental and molecular levels. This innovative technology transforms information obtained from a mass spectrometer- encompassing ionic strength, mass-to-charge ratio, and ionized molecule coordinates-within a defined region into a pixel-based model. Consequently, it reconstructs the spatial distribution of ions, allowing for a comprehensive understanding of molecular landscapes.

Voltage-gated Ca2+ channels (VGCCs) are highly expressed throughout numerous biological systems and play critical roles in synaptic transmission, cardiac excitation, and muscle contraction. To perform these various functions, VGCCs are highly regulated. Inactivation comprises a critical mechanism controlling the entry of Ca2+ through these channels and constitutes an important means to regulate cellular excitability, shape action potentials, control intracellular Ca2+ levels, and contribute to long-term potentiation and depression.

ISB 1442 is a bispecific biparatopic antibody in clinical development to treat hematological malignancies. It consists of two adjacent anti-CD38 arms targeting non-overlapping epitopes that preferentially drive binding to tumor cells and a low-affinity anti-CD47 arm to enable avidity-induced blocking of proximal CD47 receptors. We previously reported the pharmacology of ISB 1442, designed to reestablish synthetic immunity in CD38+ hematological malignancies.

Breast milk (BM) is the only source of iodine and bioactive compounds that influence growth and development in infants. The content of BM may be influenced by maternal body mass index (BMI). The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of maternal weight on BM and cord blood iodine concentrations, growth-related hormones, infant anthropometric measurements.

Although islet transplantation is effective in reducing severe hypoglycemia events and controlling blood glucose in patients with type 1 diabetes, maintaining islet graft function long-term is a significant challenge. Islets from multiple donors are often needed to achieve insulin independence, and even then, islet function can decline over time when metabolic demand exceeds islet mass/insulin secretory capacity. We previously developed a method that calculated the islet graft function index (GFI) and a patient's predicted insulin requirement (PIR) using mathematical nonlinear regression.
