This study investigated the somatic underpinning of empathy using an interpersonal physiology approach. Thirty-nine dyads were formed by a "pseudo-patient" and a "listener" (a therapist, a psychologist, or a non-therapist). Dyadic physiological concordance in electrodermal responses and listeners' empathy were evaluated during simulations of clinical sessions. A significant positive correlation between empathy as perceived by pseudo-patients and physiological concordance was found, providing empirical evidence of a somatic underpinning of empathy. Moreover, therapists showed higher levels of physiological concordance and empathy, confirming the importance of psychotherapy training in managing clinical interactions.

Lygodactylus geckos represent a well-documented radiation of miniaturized lizards with diverse life-history traits that are widely distributed in Africa, Madagascar, and South America. The group has diversified into numerous species with high levels of morphological similarity. The evolutionary processes underlying such diversification remain enigmatic, because species live in different ecological biomes, ecoregions and microhabitats, while suggesting strikingly high levels of homoplasy.

Vascularized composite allotransplantation (VCA) represents a clinical challenge for transplant therapy, as it involves different tissues with unique immunogenicity. Even when receiving immunosuppressive therapy, they are more vulnerable to severe hypoxia, microvascular damage, and ultimately the rejection or chronic graft dysfunction after transplantation. This study aimed to develop a surgical protocol for VCA of the ear in a porcine biomodel in the absence of immunosuppression, maintaining the in vitro co-culture of the allograft and assessing their relationship with allograft survival.

Unlabelled: Abnormal regional variations in electrical and calcium homeostasis properties have been implicated in catecholaminergic polymorphic ventricular tachycardias (CPVT) attributable to abnormal RyR2-mediated store Ca release, but their underlying mechanism have not been well explored in intact hearts.
Methods: We performed in vivo and ex vivo studies including high throughput mapping of Ca transients (CaT) and transmembrane voltage (V) in murine wild-type (WT) and heterozygous -R2474S/+ hearts, before and during isoprenaline (ISO) challenge.
Results: ISO-challenged -R2474S/+ showed increased incidence of arrhythmia accompanied by abnormal Ca transients compared to WT.

Patient-derived organoids (PDOs) and xenografts (PDXs) are powerful tools for personalized medicine in pancreatic cancer (PC) research. This study explores the complementary strengths of PDOs and PDXs in terms of practicality, genetic fidelity, cost, and labor considerations. Among other models like 2D cell cultures, spheroids, cancer-on-chip systems, cell line-derived xenografts (CDX), and genetically engineered mouse models (GEMMs), PDOs and PDXs uniquely balance genetic fidelity and personalized medicine potential, offering distinct advantages over the simplicity of 2D cultures and the advanced, but often resource-intensive, GEMMs and cancer-on-chip systems.
