The nonlinear absorption (NLA) properties of free base and metalated porphyrins with a unique 5,10-A(2)B(2) substitution pattern were studied with open Z-scan technique at 532 nm in the nanosecond regime over a broad range of input fluence. The NLA responses were found to be dependent on structural features and the solvent used. In most cases, the character of the response differed from that typically observed for other porphyrins under similar experimental conditions (i.e., reverse saturable absorption, RSA), suggesting distinct photophysical properties. A series of models was considered in order to understand the NLA responses. Although the character of the responses varied between compounds and solvents, it was found that one model fits best all of the recorded responses. Thus, a four-level model with simultaneous two-photon absorption arising from the higher excited state is proposed (1 + 1 + 2 photon absorption).

Molecular arrangement in the chiral smectic phases of the glassforming (S)-4'-(1-methylheptylcarbonyl)biphenyl-4-yl 4-[7-(2,2,3,3,4,4,4-heptafluorobutoxy) heptyl-1-oxy]benzoate is investigated by X-ray diffraction. An increased correlation length of the positional short-range order in the supercooled state agrees with the previous assumption of the hexatic smectic phase. However, the registered X-ray diffraction patterns are not typical for the hexatic phases.

We report photodissociation processes and spectral measurements upon photoabsorption of size-selected cationic silver clusters, Ag, stored in an ion trap. The experiment shows that small clusters ( ≲ 15) dissociate upon one-photon absorption, whereas larger ones require multiple photons up to five in the present study. The emergence of multi-photon processes is attributed to collisional cooling in the presence of a buffer helium gas in the trap, which competes with size-dependent dissociation rates.

Background: Determining the optimum water absorption capacity of gluten-free flours for an improved breadmaking process has been a challenge because there is no standard method. In the present study, large amplitude oscillatory shear (LAOS) tests were performed to explore the impact of different levels of added water on non-linear viscoelastic response of soy flour dough in comparison to wheat flour dough at a consistency of 500 BU.

Results: Among the LAOS parameters, large strain modulus (G') and large strain rate viscosity (η') were found to better probe the impact of added water amount on non-linear viscoelastic properties of soy flour dough.

The objective of this study was to implement population pharmacokinetic (PPK) of enrofloxacin (EF) in grass carp (Ctenopharyngodon idella) after a single oral administration and a single intravenous administration based on a nonlinear mixed effect model. The plasma samples collected by the sparse sampling method were detected by high-performance liquid chromatography with a fluorescent detector. The initial pharmacokinetic (PK) parameters were evaluated by reference search and the calculation of a naïve pooled method.

Exploring potential third-order nonlinear optical (NLO) materials attracts ever-increasing attention. Given that the atomically precise and rich adjustable structural features of silver nanoclusters (Ag NCs), as well as the unique π-electron conjugated system of carbon-based nanomaterials, a supramolecular co-assembly amplification strategy to enhance the luminescent intensity and NLO performance of the hybrids of the two components, are constructed and the relationship between structures and optical properties are investigated. By combining water soluble Ag NCs [(NH)[Ag(mna)] (Hmna = 2-mercaptonicotinic acid, abbreviated to Ag─NCs hereafter) containing uncoordinated carboxyl groups with water-soluble fullerene derivatives modified with multiple hydroxyl groups (fullerenols, C─OH), the π-electron delocalization is expanded owing to non-covalent hydrogen bonding effect between Ag6─NCs and C─OH, which provides a feasible basis for realizing the NLO response.
