Background: For decades, the field of quality of life for people with intellectual disabilities has focused on the improving the external life conditions. However, scarce research has examined the contribution of person-related psychological resources such as emotional competence (EC) on well-being in this population.
Materials And Methods: Using a cross-sectional design, 139 adults with intellectual disabilities completed different measures: Subjective Happiness Scale, Satisfaction with Life Scale, Positive Affect and Negative Affect Scale and Wong and Law Emotional Intelligence Scale.
Results: Emotional competence shows a positive and significant association with life satisfaction and happiness. EC dimensions were predictors of well-being beyond socio-demographic variables and dispositional affectivity.
Conclusions: Our findings provide preliminary evidence of the potential value of considering EC in the improvement in the quality of life of people with intellectual disabilities. Professionals interested in intellectual disabilities care might consider training programmes based on EC as an additional intervention strategy aimed at improving well-being.

Catatonia is a highly morbid psychomotor and affective disorder, which can affect autistic individuals with and without intellectual disability. Catatonic symptoms are treatable with pharmacotherapy and electroconvulsive therapy, but the longitudinal effectiveness of these treatments in autistic individuals has not been described. Vacuolization of hematopoietic precursors cells is a common future of several otherwise non-related clinical settings such as VEXAS, Chediak-Higashi syndrome and Danon disease. Although these disorders have a priori nothing to do with one other from a clinical point of view, all share abnormal vacuolization in different cell types including cells of the erythroid/myeloid lineage that is likely the consequence of moderate to drastic dysfunctions in the ubiquitin proteasome system and/or the endo-lysosomal pathway. Indeed, the genes affected in these three diseases UBA1, LYST or LAMP2 are known to be direct or indirect regulators of lysosome trafficking and function and/or of different modes of autophagy.
