Materials Challenges in the Electric Vehicle Transition.

Environ Sci Technol

July 2024

School of Engineering and Technology, UNSW Canberra, 2610 Canberra, Australian Capital Territory, Australia.

The ongoing transition toward electric vehicles (EVs) is changing materials used for vehicle production, of which the consequences for the environmental performance of EVs are not well understood and managed. We demonstrate that electrification coupled with lightweighting of automobiles will lead to significant changes in the industry's demand not only for battery materials but also for other materials used throughout the entire vehicle. Given the automotive industry's substantial consumption of raw materials, changes in its material demands are expected to trigger volatilities in material prices, consequently impacting the material composition and attractiveness of EVs.

Heavy metals in cultured oysters (Saccostrea glomerata) and clams (Meretrix lyrata) from the northern coastal area of Vietnam.

Mar Pollut Bull

November 2022

Institute of Environmental Technology, Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, 18 Hoangquocviet Road, Caugiay District, Hanoi, Viet Nam; Graduate University of Science and Technology, Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, 18 Hoangquocviet Road, Caugiay District, Hanoi, Viet Nam. Electronic address:

Oysters and clams are abundant and popularly consumed seafood in Viet Nam. These bivalves were proved to be suitable bioindicators to assess the heavy metal accumulation in the aquatic environment. The study is to investigate heavy metals such as As, Cd, Hg and Pb in the cultured oysters Saccostrea glomerata and clams Meretrix lyrata collected in VanDon - Quang Ninh, and CatBa - Hai Phong.

Evaluation of the Flexibility for Catalytic Ozonation of Dichloromethane over Urchin-Like CuMnO in Flue Gas with Complicated Components.

Environ Sci Technol

September 2022

State Key Laboratory of Multiphase Flow in Power Engineering, School of Energy and Power Engineering, Xi'an Jiaotong University, Xi'an 710049, P.R. China.

The evaluation of the poisoning effect of complex components in practical gas on DCM (dichloromethane) catalytic ozonation is of great significance for enhancing the technique's environmental flexibility. Herein, Ca, Pb, As, and NO/SO were selected as a typical alkaline-earth metal, heavy metal, metalloid, and acid gas, respectively, to evaluate their interferences on catalytic behaviors and surface properties of an optimized urchin-like CuMn catalyst. Ca/Pb loading weakens the formation of oxygen vacancies, oxygen mobility, and acidity due to the fusion of Mn-Ca/Pb-O, leading to their inferior catalytic performance with poor CO selectivity and mineralization rate.
