Changes in microcirculation following transcatheter aortic valve implantation in patients with stable coronary artery disease.

Arch Cardiovasc Dis

December 2024

Nantes Université, CHU Nantes, Unité Hémodynamique et Cardiologie Interventionnelle, l'institut du thorax, 44000 Nantes, France.

Background: Few studies have assessed coronary physiology in the setting of coronary artery disease (CAD) with severe aortic stenosis (AS). Fractional flow reserve (FFR) to guide revascularization in such patients is not validated.

Aims: We describe changes in coronary physiology in this population before and after transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI).

Ketone monoester ingestion improves cardiac function in adults with type 2 diabetes: a double-blind, placebo controlled, randomised, crossover trial.

J Appl Physiol (1985)

January 2025

Physical Activity, Health and Rehabilitation Thematic Research Group, School of Psychology, Sport & Health Sciences, Faculty of Science and Health, University of Portsmouth, Portsmouth, UK.

Type 2 diabetes (T2D) is a metabolic disease associated with cardiovascular dysfunction. The myocardium preferentially uses ketones over free fatty acids as a more energy efficient substrate. The primary aim was to assess the effects of ketone monoester (K) ingestion on cardiac output index ().

Obesity and retinal microvasculature dysfunction are linked and impact visual acuity. The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between the HOMA-IR score and the presence of vascular dysfunction (capillary perfusion and flux index) of the optic nerve head (ONH) of the retina in obese patients and to determine its diagnostic performance to predict vascular dysfunction. A case-control study was conducted in 2022 involving individuals from obese and non-obese groups.

Objective: Current guidelines recommend the use of glycoprotein IIb/IIIa (GpIIb/IIIa) inhibitors in patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) only as a bail-out therapy. However, drug penetration to the jeopardised area may not be achieved due to impeded blood flow and increased microvascular resistance. Aim of our study is to investigate the impact of distal intracoronary GpIIb/IIIa inhibitor agent infusion in STEMI patients.

Background: Lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced apoptosis of lung microvascular endothelial cells (ECs) is the main reason of lung edema and acute lung injury (ALI) in septic conditions. Telocytes (TCs) are a distinct type of interstitial cells found around the lung microvasculature, which may protect ECs through the release of shed vesicles. However, whether TCs protect against LPS-induced EC apoptosis and ALI has not been determined.
