Information available in the literature about the effects of ionizing radiation on flora and fauna species is a basis for the development of a methodology for radiation protection of the environment. International experience in the creation of databases of radiation effects in biota is discussed. Here presented and described are the structure and the content of the database "Biological effects of radiation in plants" which at present contains more than 5000 datasets and about 19000 "radiation impact-biological effect" pairs of data. Experience and perspectives of applying the database management systems in radiobiology and radiation protection are discussed.

Background: Hypothyroidism is a common sequela after radiotherapy for nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has gained prominence in thyroid imaging, leveraging its non-ionizing radiation, high spatial resolution, multiparameter and multidirectional imaging. Few previous studies have investigated the evaluation of radiation-induced thyroid injury by MRI.

Introduction: Recent findings show that visible light, particularly blue light, stimulates melanogenesis in human skin, though the underlying mechanisms remain debated. This study aimed to determine the cell damage threshold of non-ionizing blue light on keratinocytes while preserving their ability to stimulate melanogenesis.
Methods: Human keratinocytes (N = 3) and melanocytes (N = 3) were isolated from skin samples of varying Fitzpatrick skin phototypes and irradiated with blue light (λpeak = 457 nm) and UVA light (λpeak = 385 nm).

Existing biomedical imaging modalities are often restricted by their substantial size, high costs, and potential risks associated with ionizing radiation exposure. Given these challenges, there is an urgent need for innovative imaging systems that not only excel in detection performance but are also compact, cost-effective, and ensure safety for biomedical applications. In response to these requirements, our research introduces an advanced terahertz (THz) microbolometer array imaging system (MAIS), specifically engineered for biomedical detection.

Ionizing radiation exposure during perinatal development can produce various biological effects on the developing offspring. These effects are dependent on a number of factors, including total dose, dose rate and the developmental processes occurring at the time of irradiation. The present study conducted an analysis of historical radiobiological archived data involving 60Co-gamma irradiation of beagle dogs at specific periods of prenatal or postnatal development.

Controlling the absorbed dose received by a target is a major challenge encountered during ionizing radiation applications. For experimentally measuring absorbed dose, dosimetric systems are used. On the other hand, in addition to experimental methods of dose measurement, there are other alternatives for calculating absorbed doses, these are numerical methods based on the Monte Carlo method which are very sophisticated and widely used throughout the world.
