Drawing on the qualitative loop analysis models prepared by Lane for a Delaware Bay plankton community, we evaluated 12 systems that ranged from 14 to 18 entities (population, guild or nutrient). Our approach was to study models of extended trophic biotic communities and examine the stability-complexity issue not only as it exists between systems (the traditional approach) but also with respect to the entities and relationships within a given system. We found no statistically significant inverse relationship for stability and complexity between systems. Within a system, a significant inverse relationship at the entity level was observed embedded in an increasing stability positively related to increasing subsystem size. Also, within a system and from system to system, several entities were seen to vary their roles with respect to stability. These results extend the stability-complexity issue to models of relatively large biotic communities and raise issues concerning the roles, with respect to stability, played by entities within communities.

Background: The airways of patients with cystic fibrosis (pwCF) harbour complex fungal and bacterial microbiota involved in pulmonary exacerbations (PEx) and requiring antimicrobial treatment. Descriptive studies analysing bacterial and fungal microbiota concomitantly are scarce, especially using both culture and high-throughput-sequencing (HTS).
Objectives: We analysed bacterial-fungal microbiota and inter-kingdom correlations in two French CF centres according to clinical parameters and antimicrobial choices.

Advancing microbiome-gut-brain axis science requires systematic, rational and translational approaches to bridge the critical knowledge gaps currently preventing full exploitation of the gut microbiome as a tractable therapeutic target for gastrointestinal, mental and brain health. Current research is still marked by many open questions that undermine widespread application to humans. For example, the lack of mechanistic understanding of probiotic effects means it remains unclear why even apparently closely related strains exhibit different effects in vivo.

Weaning is essential for foal growth and development. We determined the intestinal flora structure of donkey foals at the end of weaning (PreW_4d) and three stages after weaning (PostW_4d, PostW_8d, and PostW_15d) to explore the effects of weaning on intestinal development of donkey foals. The results showed that the main microbial flora in the gut of the donkey foal were Firmicutes and Bacteroides, and the proportion of Firmicutes gradually increased with weaning, which was an important reflection of the donkey foal's adaptability to the transition from lactose liquid feed to plant fiber solid feed.

However, the correlation between other cellular properties of intestinal bacteria and disease has not been explored further, especially for features that are not directly driven by the host immune-system, e.g.

The polymorphic microbiome is considered a new hallmark of cancer. Advances in High-Throughput Sequencing have fostered rapid developments in microbiome research. The interaction between cancer cells, immune cells, and microbiota is defined as the immuno-oncology microbiome (IOM) axis.
