Purpose: To investigate the correlations between parameters of dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (DCE-MRI) and prognostic factors in rectal cancer.
Materials And Methods: We studied 29 patients with rectal cancer who underwent gadolinium contrast-enhanced, T1-weighted DCE-MRI with a three Tesla scanner prior to surgery. Signal intensity on DCE-MRI was independently measured by two observers to examine reproducibility. A time-signal intensity curve was generated, from which four semiquantitative parameters were calculated: steepest slope (SLP), time to peak (Tp), relative enhancement during a rapid rise (Erise), and maximal enhancement (Emax). Morphologic prognostic factors including T stage, N stage, and histologic grade were identified. Tumor angiogenesis was evaluated in terms of microvessel count (MVC) and microvessel area (MVA) by morphometric study. As molecular factors, the mutation status of the K-ras oncogene and microsatellite instability were assessed. DCE-MRI parameters were correlated with each prognostic factor using bivariate correlation analysis. A p-value of <0.05 was considered significant.
Results: Erise was significantly correlated with N stage (r=-0.387 and -0.393, respectively, for two independent data), and Tp was significantly correlated with histologic grade (r=0.466 and 0.489, respectively). MVA was significantly correlated with SLP (r= -0.532 and -0.535, respectively) and Erise (r=-0.511 and -0.446, respectively). MVC was significantly correlated with Emax (r=-0.435 and -0.386, respectively). No significant correlations were found between DCE-MRI parameters and T stage, K-ras mutation, or microsatellite instability.
Conclusion: DCE-MRI may provide useful prognostic information in terms of histologic differentiation and angiogenesis in rectal cancer.

Objective: Early and accurate diagnosis of prostate cancer (PC) is crucial for effective treatment. Diagnosing clinically insignificant cancers can lead to overdiagnosis and overtreatment, highlighting the importance of accurately selecting patients for further evaluation based on improved risk prediction tools. Novel biomarkers offer promise for enhancing this diagnostic process.

Objective: This study investigated the association between loss of MSH2/MSH6 versus loss of MLH1/PMS2 expression and overall survival and disease-free survival in patients with localized colorectal cancer.
Background: The risk of developing colorectal cancer varies depending on the expression of mismatch repair proteins. However, it is unknown if the prognosis differs accordingly.

Objective: Among the different subtypes of invasive lung adenocarcinoma, lepidic predominant adenocarcinoma (LPA) has been recognized as the lowest-risk subtype with good prognosis. The aim of this study is to provide insight into the heterogeneity within LPA tumors and to better understand the influence of other sub-histologies on survival outcome.
Methods: Overall, 75 consecutive patients with LPA in pathologic stage I (TNM 8th edition) who underwent resection between 2010 and 2022 were included into this retrospective, single center analysis.

Objective: To describe the characteristics of patients diagnosed with acute heart failure (AHF) in emergency departments (EDs) who develop cardiogenic shock (CS) not associated with ST-segment elevation acute coronary syndrome (STACS).
Methods: Information for patients diagnosed with AHF in 23 Spanish EDs and registered between 2009 and 2019 were included for analysis if the patients developed symptoms consistent with CS. We described baseline clinical characteristics related to cardiac decompensation and CS, as well as 30-day mortality.

Objective: To develop a Metabolic Derangement Score (MDS) based on parameters available after initial testing and assess the score's ability to predict survival after out-of hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) and the likely usefulness of extracorporeal life support (ECLS).
Methods: A total of 5100 cases in the Korean Cardiac Arrest Research Consortium registry were included. Patients' mean age was 67 years, and 69% were men.
