Adducted thumbs are an uncommon congenital malformation. It can be an important clinical clue in genetic syndromes, e.g. the L1 syndrome. A retrospective survey was performed including patients with adducted thumbs referred to the Department of Clinical Genetics between 1985 and 2011 by perinatologists, (child) neurologists or paediatricians, in order to evaluate current knowledge on the genetic etiology of adducted thumbs. Twenty-five patients were included in this survey. Additional features were observed in 88% (22/25). In 25% (4/16) of the patients with adducted thumbs and congenital hydrocephalus L1CAM gene mutations were identified. One patient had a mosaic 5p13 duplication. Recommendations are made concerning the evaluation and genetic workup of patients with adducted thumbs.

Purpose Of The Study: The aim of this study to evaluate the subjective and objective results of Extensor indicis proprius (EIP) to extensor pollicis longus (EPL) transfer with an emphasis on donor site morbidity.
Material And Methods: 17 patients (59% men, 41% women) who underwent EIP-EPL transfer were retrospectively analyzed. The mean age was 43 (9-64) years, and the mean follow-up was 72 (19-124) months.

Background: China is seeing a growing demand for rehabilitation treatments for post-stroke upper limb spastic paresis (PSSP-UL). Although acupuncture is known to be effective for PSSP-UL, there is room to enhance its efficacy.
Objective: This study explored a semi-personalized acupuncture approach for PSSP-UL that used three-dimensional kinematic analysis (3DKA) results to select additional acupoints, and investigated the feasibility, efficacy and safety of this approach.

Clasped thumb is characterised by thumb adduction and flexion deformity at the metacarpophalangeal joint caused by abnormalities in the extensor tendons. While conservative treatments are effective in infants, surgical intervention is necessary for older who experience deformities or functional impairments. We report an adolescent patient with an untreated clasped thumb who underwent extensor pollicis brevis (EPB) reconstruction using the extensor indicis proprius (EIP) tendon through the first dorsal compartment.

As an essential contributor to thumb and hand function, it is necessary to establish metacarpal (MC) kinematics to track thumb health and determine the efficacy of treatments. In the literature, several hand dorsum coordinate systems (CSs) have been utilized for MC angle calculations. These systems were determined using varied motion capture marker setups.

This article aims to establish the relative thumb length in comparison to the index finger in central Indian adults. Five hundred normal adult hands (1,000 thumbs), 316 men and 184 women, mean age 30 years, were included in the study. The relative length of the thumb was measured using the length of the proximal phalanx of the index finger (thumb-proximal phalanx index) and the distance between the proximal digital crease and proximal interphalangeal crease of the index finger (thumb-digital crease index).
