Background: ST2, part of the interleukin-1 receptor family, is released from cardiac myocytes under mechanical strain. Soluble ST2 (sST2) concentrations are associated with adverse cardiac events in high-risk cohorts. We evaluated the association of sST2 with all-cause and cardiovascular mortality in a large, low-risk population-based cohort.
Methods: Plasma sST2 was measured in 3294 subjects from the Dallas Heart Study, a probability-based population cohort. We categorized participants into undetectable (reference group) or quartiles of detectable sST2 concentrations. Associations with all-cause and cardiovascular mortality were assessed over a median 8.3 years of follow-up.
Results: sST2 concentrations were not significantly associated with most traditional risk factors, prevalent subclinical cardiovascular disease, or nonfatal cardiac events. However, a higher proportion of African Americans had detectable concentrations of sST2 than non-African Americans (44% vs 21%, respectively, P < 0.0001). In addition, sST2 concentrations were significantly associated with markers of inflammation. Increased sST2 was associated with increased all-cause mortality (Ptrend ≤ 0.0001) and cardiovascular mortality (Ptrend = 0.0004). In fully adjusted models, those in the highest quartile of detectable sST2 were at increased risk for all-cause death compared to those with undetectable sST2 concentrations (adjusted hazard ratio 2.1, 95% CI 1.4-3.2, P = 0.0009).
Conclusions: In a low-risk population, sST2 does not associate with traditional cardiovascular risk factors or nonfatal cardiovascular events but is higher in African Americans and is associated with increased all-cause and cardiovascular mortality. Further investigation is needed regarding the role of sST2 in risk prediction, particularly among African Americans.

Background: Lately, numerous researches have portrayed stress hyperglycemia ratio (SHR) is predominantly connected with short-term adverse prognosis among individuals who have acute coronary syndrome. Nevertheless, the relation of SHR with prolonged effects and the value of SHR in predicting in coronary artery disease (CAD) patients with or lacking chronic kidney disease (CKD) remain unclear. The present study was designed to elucidate the relation of SHR with prolonged prognosis and the value of SHR in predicting the long-term all-cause and cardiovascular death of CAD patients with CKD or non-CKD.

Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are the leading cause of mortality among individuals with noncommunicable diseases worldwide. Obesity is associated with an increased risk of developing cardiovascular disease (CVD). Mitochondria are integral to the cardiovascular system, and it has been reported that mitochondrial transfer is associated with the pathogenesis of multiple CVDs and obesity.

Adequate secondary prevention in survivors of intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) who also have atrial fibrillation (AF) is a long-standing clinical dilemma because these patients are at increased risk of recurrent ICH as well as of ischemic stroke. The efficacy and safety of oral anticoagulation, the standard preventive medication for ischemic stroke patients with AF, in ICH patients with AF are uncertain. PRESTIGE-AF is an international, phase 3b, multi-center, randomized, open, blinded end-point assessment (PROBE) clinical trial that compared the efficacy and safety of direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) with no DOAC (either no antithrombotic treatment or any antiplatelet drug).

Aims: Patients with cardiomyopathies are a heterogeneous group of patients who experience high morbidity and mortality. Early cardiac assessment and intervention with access to genetic counselling in a multidisciplinary Cardiomyopathy Clinic may improve outcomes and prevent progression to advanced heart failure.
Methods And Results: Our prospective cohort study was conducted at a multidisciplinary Cardiomyopathy Clinic with 421 patients enrolled (42.

Cardiovascular (CV) diseases caused 20.5 million deaths in 2021, making up nearly one-third of global mortality. This highlights the need for practical prognostic markers to better classify patients and guide treatment, especially in ischemic heart disease (IHD), which represents one of the leading causes of CV mortality.
