Objective: To evaluate the accuracy of point-of-care tests (POCTs) for CD4 cell, clinical chemistry and hemoglobin in primary healthcare clinics in Mozambique.
Design And Methods: POCT and laboratory-based assays were conducted on adult HIV-positive patients enrolled consecutively at primary healthcare clinics in Mozambique. Patients were tested on-site with POCT CD4 (Pima), clinical chemistry (Reflotron) and hemoglobin (HemoCue) devices using finger prick blood.

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to compare total capillary cholesterol values acquired using the Reflotron with a venous sample taken simultaneously, to determine if the Reflotron meets the guidelines of the National Cholesterol Education Program (NCEP) for accuracy.
Study Design: An announcement and a registration form for a cholesterol screening programme were distributed with employee pay slips at a large southern university. Approximately 15 employees were scheduled for each screening date, with walk-ins allowed at the health assessment site as space allowed.

The alkaline phosphatase (ALP) assay for the Reflotron system is a dry chemistry method applicable for decentralized testing. The ALP diethanolamine method has been applied as the comparison method, which is now replaced by the more widely distributed aminomethylpropanol method. The new comparison method measures ALP activities by approximately 59% lower compared to the former method.

Most of the previously obtained data on cosmonauts' metabolic state concerned certain stages of the postflight period. In this connection, all conclusions, as to metabolism peculiarities during the space flight, were to a large extent probabilistic. The purpose of this work was study of metabolism characteristics in cosmonauts directly during long-term space flights.

A new reagent carrier, Reflotron ALP, has been developed for the Reflotron system, allowing easy and rapid measurement (in less than 3 minutes) of alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity in capillary blood, venous blood, heparinized plasma or serum. The evaluation of the analytical performance of the assay was carried out at eight clinical laboratories. The study of the imprecision using the measurements in human samples resulted in coefficients of variation ranging from 1.
