We have investigated the linear response of shear stress to ac electric fields under shear flow in a nematic liquid crystal. The experimental results were compared with the theoretical results derived from the Ericksen-Leslie theory. Although close agreement was obtained at low shear rates, discrepancies were observed at high shear rates. By introducing a two-mode coupling model the experimental results were well reproduced for the entire range of shear rates, and nonconservative forces were found to play an important role in determining the fluctuation dynamics, which is a characteristic of nonequilibrium steady states.

The escalating global energy demand necessitates enhanced oil recovery methods, particularly offshore. Biological nanotechnology offers sustainable, environment-friendly, and cost-effective alternatives to synthetic chemicals. This study explored the synthesis of polysaccharide-based nanoparticles (PNPs) from Corchorus olitorius leaves using a weak acid-assisted ultrasonic method and their application as nanocomposites for oil recovery.

Statement Of Problem: Comprehensive data are needed on the performance of chemically activated, chairside hard reline materials when used with computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing (CAD-CAM) milled polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) denture bases and conventionally processed bases. This lack of data affects decisions regarding the chairside reline material to be used for improving the fit and retention of relined complete dentures.
Purpose: The purpose of this in vitro study was to evaluate and compare the shear bond strength (SBS) of 3 chemically activated, chairside hard reline materials on CAD-CAM milled and conventional heat-polymerized PMMA denture bases.

Breast cancer cells sense shear stresses in response to interstitial fluid flow in bone and induce specific biological responses. Computational fluid dynamics models have been instrumental in estimating these shear stresses to relate the cell mechanoresponse to exact mechanical signals, better informing experiment design. Most computational models greatly simplify the experimental and cell mechanical environments for ease of computation, but these simplifications may overlook complex cell-substrate mechanical interactions that significantly change shear stresses experienced by cells.
