A new design of luminescent materials by decorating a tetraphenylethene core with four aromatic chromophores is proposed. The generated luminogens exhibit aggregation-enhanced emission and excellent solid-state fluorescence efficiency (93-99%). Efficient non-doped OLEDs based on them afford remarkable efficiencies up to 11 cd A(-1).

A cobalt(III)-catalyzed dual C(sp)-H/C(sp)-H activation of 2-arylimidazopyridines and its annulation with N-substituted maleimides leads to polycyclic aromatic heterocycles. This sustainable oxidative annulation uses earth-abundant, less toxic, and cost-effective cobalt(III) catalyst that complement expensive 2nd and 3rd-row metals. This oxidative annulation features a broad substrate scope with very good functional group tolerance.

Clinical Translational Research Center of Aggregation-Induced Emission, The Second Affiliated Hospital, School of Medicine, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen (CUHK-Shenzhen), Shenzhen, Guangdong, 518172, China.

The dynamic modulation of the aggregation process of small molecules represents an important research objective for scientists. However, the complex and dynamic nature of internal environments in vivo impedes controllable aggregation processes of single molecules. In this study, we successfully achieve tumor-targeted aggregation of an aggregation-induced emission photosensitizer (AIE-PS), TBmA, with the catalysis of a tumor-overexpressed enzyme, γ-Glutamyl Transferase (GGT).

The healing of chronic wounds infected by bacteria has attracted increasing global concerns. In the past decades, antibiotics have certainly brought hope to cure bacteria-infected chronic wounds. However, the misuse of antibiotics leads to the emergence of numerous multidrug-resistant bacteria, which aggravate the health threat to clinical patients.

Excited-state intramolecular proton transfer (ESIPT)-associated dual-state emissive aliphatic dual-light emitting conducting polymers (DLECPs) having oxidation-reduction capacities are prepared polymerizing 2-acrylamido-2-methylpropane-1-sulfonic acid, methacrylic acid, and 2-methyl-3-(N-(2-methyl-1-sulfopropan-2-yl)acrylamido)propanoic acid monomers. Of as-synthesized DLECPs, nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopies, fluorescent enhancements (I/I), and computational investigation indicate intriguing photophysical features in DLECP3 (optimum composition). In DLECP3, ─CONH─, ─CON<, and ─COOH subluminophores are recognized by density-functional theory (DFT)/time-dependent-DFT calculations and experimental investigations.

Tumor microenvironment ameliorative and adaptive nanoparticles with photothermal-to-photodynamic switch for cancer phototherapy.

The notorious tumor microenvironment (TME) usually becomes more deteriorative during phototherapeutic progress that hampers the antitumor efficacy. To overcome this issue, we herein report the ameliorative and adaptive nanoparticles (TPASIC-PFH@PLGA NPs) that simultaneously reverse hypoxia TME and switch photoactivities from photothermal-dominated state to photodynamic-dominated state to maximize phototherapeutic effect. TPASIC-PFH@PLGA NPs are designed by incorporating oxygen-rich liquid perfluorohexane (PFH) into the intraparticle microenvironment to regulate the intramolecular motions of AIE photosensitizer TPASIC.
