Corticosteroids are widely used in the treatment of inflammatory and immunological diseases of the eye. They are given by three routes: topical application, periocular injection and systemic administration. Topical application, periocular injection and systemic administration. Topical application is used for anterior inflammatory diseases, such as conjunctivitis, keratitis or anterior uveitis. Posterior uveitis is treated with systemic and local injections. Herpetic keratitis is a contra-indications to the use of corticosteroids. Ocular side-effects are observed with systemic administration as well as with topical applications and local injections. They include posterior subcapsular cataract, rise of intraocular pressure and even glaucoma, failure in healing of corneal wounds and exacerbation of ocular infections. These side-effects are not always reversible when treatment is stopped. Prevention consists of repeated eye examination.

Topical application of ophthalmic drugs remains to be the preferred delivery method. Eye drops lead the pharmaceutical forms due to ease of application. Despite the poor bioavailability of drugs administered topically, especially related to the dilution and excretion by tear fluid, the absence of controlled drug delivery, and the poor compliance within pediatric and senior populations, eye drops and ointments are still the first choices in eye--related disorders management.

Acne vulgaris is a prevalent dermatological condition characterized by comedones, papules, and pustules, with significant physical and psychological implications. Conventional treatments for this condition, including antibiotics and retinoids, face challenges, such as side effects and antibiotic resistance, necessitating alternative treatments. Recent studies show the potential of probiotics to modulate skin microbiome and alleviate acne symptoms.

The journey of bone repair is a lengthy process. Traditionally, oral or topical medications have been employed to facilitate healing, approaches that are not only costly but may also lead to adverse effects such as gastrointestinal damage. With advancements in electrophysiology, the significance of bioelectric activity in tissue repair has become increasingly prominent, thereby enhancing the focus on research into electroacupuncture (EA) for bone repair.

Lipophilic derivatives of vitamin C, known as ascorbyl-6-O-alkanoates (ASCn), have been mainly developed for use in cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, and the food industry as antioxidant additives. These derivatives are of biotechnological interest due to their antioxidant properties, amphiphilic behavior, capacity to self-organize into nano- and micro-structures, anionic nature, and low cost of synthesis. In this review, we will focus on the commercial amphiphile, 6-O-palmitoyl L-ascorbic acid (ASC16), and the shorter acyl chains derivatives, such as 6-O-myristoyl (ASC14) and 6-O-lauroyl L-ascorbic acid (ASC12).

In this work, microalgae-based zinc oxide nanoparticles loaded with electrospun polyvinyl alcohol (PVA)/sodium alginate (SA) nanofibers were fabricated by electro-spinner. PVA/SA fibrous mats were crosslinked by citric acid, which enhanced their thermal stability and swelling behavior. Green-synthesized ZnO NPs were laboratory synthesized and characterized by FTIR, XRD, EDX, SEM, TEM and TGA analyses.
