Purpose: The elbow is an inherently stable joint because of its bony articulation and surrounding capsuloligamentous structures. Anatomic and biomechanical studies have focused on the medial and lateral collateral ligamentous contributions to stability. In 1918, Gray provided a qualitative description of the elbow capsule and its fibers. Our study was performed to detail the gross anatomy of the elbow capsule.
Methods: We evaluated the elbow capsule of 6 paired, fresh-frozen cadaveric specimens to detail gross capsular anatomy.
Results: We identified 3 distinct bands within the anterior capsule and 3 distinct bands within the posterior capsule.
Conclusions: Further study is needed to delineate the functional meaning of these anatomic findings.
Clinical Relevance: Greater understanding of elbow capsule gross anatomy may lead to improved understanding of acute and chronic elbow pathoanatomy and treatment modalities.

The canine elbow joint is innervated by four nerves: the musculocutaneous, median, radial, and ulnar nerves. There is little data in the veterinary literature examining the course of the articular branches of those nerves. There is also no agreement as to their anatomical location in the joint capsule nor to their number.

: Elbow contracture is a common complication post-elbow trauma, the biomechanical environment after anterior capsule injury was complex. This study aimed to use a finite element model to investigate the biomechanical environment within elbow capsule and its surrounding tissues at various stages after anterior capsule injury. : A finite element model of the elbow joint, incorporating muscle activation behavior, was developed to simulate elbow flexion under normal condition (no injury) and at 2, 4, 6 and 8 weeks following anterior joint capsular injury.

Background: Frozen shoulder (FS) is a debilitating inflammatory condition affecting the shoulder capsule that causes significant pain and stiffness. Its etiology, pathophysiology, and treatment remain poorly understood. Although regarded as self-limiting, FS can have profound implications on the activities of daily living and usually takes 1-4 years to resolve on its own accord.

Background: Posttraumatic elbow stiffness is a complex complication with two characteristics of capsular contracture and heterotopic ossification. Currently, genomic mechanisms and pathogenesis of posttraumatic elbow stiffness remain inadequately understood. This study aims to identify differentially expressed genes (DEGs) and elucidate molecular networks of posttraumatic elbow stiffness, providing novel insights into disease mechanisms at transcriptome level.

Background: The incidence of revision shoulder arthroplasty continues to rise, and infection is a common indication for revision surgery. Treatment of periprosthetic joint infection (PJI) in the shoulder remains a controversial topic, with the literature reporting varying methodologies, including the use of debridement and implant retention, single-stage and 2-stage surgeries, antibiotic spacers, and resection arthroplasty. Single-stage revision has been shown to have a low rate of recurrent infection, making it more favorable because it precludes the morbidity of a 2-stage operation.
