Background: Gallstone formation is a common digestive ailment, with unclear mechanisms underlying its development. Dysfunction of the gallbladder smooth muscle (GSM) may play a crucial role, particularly with a high-fat diet (HFD). This study aimed to investigate the effects of an HFD on GSM and assess how it alters contractility through changes in the extracellular matrix (ECM).

Low back pain (LBP) caused by nucleus pulposus degeneration and calcification leads to great economic and social burden worldwide. Unexpectedly, no previous studies have demonstrated the association and the underlying mechanism between nucleus pulposus tissue degeneration and calcification formation. Secreted Phosphoprotein 1 (SPP1) exerts crucial functions in bone matrix mineralization and calcium deposition.

The aim of the present study was to explore the role of ovarian cancer G protein-coupled receptor 1 (OGR1) in osteoclast differentiation and activity induced by extracellular acid. The impact of extracellular acidification on osteoclasts was investigated. Briefly, osteoclasts were generated from RAW 264.

Ligand Inter-Relation Analysis Via Graph Theory Predicts Macrophage Response.

Adv Mater

December 2024

Department of Materials Science and Engineering, Korea University, Seoul, 02841, Republic of Korea.

Graph theory has been widely used to quantitatively analyze complex networks of molecules, materials, and cells. Analyzing the dynamic complex structure of extracellular matrix can predict cell-material interactions but has not yet been demonstrated. In this study, graph theory-based mathematical modeling of RGD ligand graph inter-relation is demonstrated by differentially cutting off RGD-to-RGD interlinkages with flexibly conjugated magnetic nanobars (MNBs) with tunable aspect ratio.

Basement membranes in lung metastasis growth and progression.

Matrix Biol

Departamento de Bioquímica y Biología Molecular, Universidad de Salamanca, Instituto de Investigación Biomédica de Salamanca (IBSAL). Electronic address:

The lung is a highly vascularized tissue that often harbors metastases from various extrathoracic malignancies. Lung parenchyma consists of a complex network of alveolar epithelial cells and microvessels, structured within an architecture defined by basement membranes. Consequently, understanding the role of the extracellular matrix (ECM) in the growth of lung metastases is essential to uncover the biology of this pathology and developing targeted therapies.
