Aim: To determine the relationship between the apendicular skeletal muscle mass and functional levels in non-institutionalized older adults in Santiago de Chile.
Methodology: This is a quantitative, non-experimental, descriptive correlational, cross-sectional study of 59 older adults (13 men and 46 women) who live in the community, particularly in Santiago, Chile. The muscle mass was estimated through anthropometric values and a predictive, validated equation for calculating Skeletal Appendicular Muscle Mass (MMAE).

Background: Although traditional surgical procedures for glaucoma (such as trabeculectomy and tube-shunt implantation) can significantly reduce intraocular pressure (IOP), they are associated with numerous complications, some of which are vision-threatening, or involve prolonged recovery or a highly intensive postoperative course. Micro-invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS) procedures have shown better safety but reduced efficacy in achieving target IOP. Combinations of these methods have led to the development of subconjunctival micro-invasive procedures with safety comparable to traditional surgery and greater efficacy than minimally invasive methods.

Background: External anal sphincter contractility significantly contributes to control the passage of stool. An artificial anal sphincter placed into the intersphincteric space is a safe and effective procedure to treat fecal incontinence, even if its mechanism of action has not been fully elucidated.
Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate external anal sphincter contractility changes after a self-expandable hyexpan prostheses was implanted into the intersphincteric space of the anal canal and clinical outcomes compared.

Purpose: To investigate the efficacy and safety of illuminated microcatheter-assisted trabeculotomy as a secondary procedure in patients with primary congenital glaucoma (PCG).
Methods: This retrospective case series included patients with PCG who underwent trabeculotomy using an illuminated microcatheter with the intent of catheterizing the full circumference of Schlemm's canal in a single procedure. Success was defined as intraocular pressure (IOP) ≤21 mmHg, with or without the use of glaucoma medications.

Clinical grading systems following glaucoma filtration surgery do not include any effects of the bleb on the intra-ocular pressure and are relatively subjective, therefore carrying the risk of inter and/or intra-observer variability. The main objective of the study is to quantify and model the effect of subconjunctival bleb on flow pressure for assessment of clinical grading following glaucoma surgery. Subconjunctival bleb was created by inserting a tube into ex vivo rabbit eyes via an ab externo approach through the anterior chamber and exiting into the subconjunctival space.
