This study's goal was to describe and begin to understand the experience of bereaved parents whose deceased child had received pediatric oncology services at a tertiary comprehensive cancer center. Focus groups were conducted with parents whose children were age 10 years and older at the time of death. Potential participants were contacted by mail and telephone. Sessions were audiotaped and transcribed verbatim. The ATLAS.ti qualitative software program was used to identify and analyze dominant themes. Fourteen parents identified four major themes: standards of care, emotional care, communication, and social support. Bereaved parents discussed the challenges associated with institutional procedures and interpersonal aspects of care in anticipation of and following their child's death. The results of these personal narratives may be used to guide care plans and deliver pediatric palliative and end-of-life interventions.

Objective: To describe the perceived wellbeing (pWB) and the psychological characteristics of young people with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions (LLTCs).
Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional study in young people aged 8 years or older with collection of data on demographic and disease-related variables from the health records. In the psychological evaluation, we collected data on emotion regulation, cognitive strategies and risk of depression and anxiety, in addition to the assessment of the pWB through a visual analogue scale.

Background And Aims: Surveyed families of children and young adults with cancer who participated in a pilot study of three coordinated telehealth visits (triad of patient/family, hospital clinician, and hospice nurse) during the first month of hospice enrollment found telehealth feasible and were highly satisfied with hospice care. The aim of this study is to further explore adult patient and caregiver perspectives on telehealth, specifically the benefits of telehealth, trade-offs with in-person appointments, and the impact on patient care and family end-of-life preparations.
Methods: This is a single-arm prospective pilot study of patients aged 0-29-with cancer initiating hospice care between 2021-2022 and their caregivers.

Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is etiologically complex, with well-documented genetic and nongenetic origins. In this Review, we speculate that the development of IPF requires two hits: the first establishes a vulnerable bronchoalveolar epithelium, and the second triggers mechanisms that reprogram distal epithelia to initiate and perpetuate a profibrotic phenotype. While vulnerability of the bronchoalveolar epithelia is most often driven by common or rare genetic variants, subsequent injury of the bronchoalveolar epithelia results in persistent changes in cell biology that disrupt tissue homeostasis and activate fibroblasts.

BACKGROUND Limb-girdle muscular dystrophy recessive 1 (LGMDR1) is an autosomal recessive degenerative muscle disorder characterized by progressive muscular weakness caused by pathogenic variants in the CAPN3 gene. Desmoplastic small round cell tumors (DSRCT) are ultra-rare and aggressive soft tissue sarcomas usually in the abdominal cavity, molecularly characterized by the presence of a EWSR1::WT1 fusion transcript. Mouse models of muscular dystrophy, including LGMDR1, present an increased risk of soft tissue sarcomas.
