The exponential random graph model (ERGM) is a popular model for social networks, which is known to have an intractable likelihood function. Sampling from the posterior for such a model is a long-standing problem in statistical research. We analyze the performance of the stochastic gradient Langevin dynamics (SGLD) algorithm (also known as noisy Longevin Monte Carlo) in tackling this problem, where the stochastic gradient is calculated via running a short Markov chain (the so-called inner Markov chain in this paper) at each iteration.

The benefits of estrogen treatment on cognition in middle-aged and older women are dependent on many factors, including the timing of treatment. Moreover, the potential interactive effects with other lifestyle factors, such as exercise, are poorly understood. In this study, we tested for lasting benefits of independent and combined treatment with estrogen and voluntary exercise initiated in midlife, using a rat model of menopause.

Virtual fencing (VF) is a modern fencing technology using Global Positioning System-enabled collars which emit acoustic signals and, if the animal does not respond, electric pulses. Studies with cattle indicate successful learning and no distinct negative impact on the animals' behaviours and stress level. However, the number of studies testing VF with goats is relatively small.

Left ventricular hypertrabeculation (LVHT) used to be a rare phenotypic trait. With advances in diagnostic imaging techniques, LVHT is being recognised in an increasing number of people. The scientific data show the possibility of the overdiagnosis of this cardiomyopathy in a population of people who have very high levels of physical activity.
