Diode and collimator/multiplexer functions are suggested to be combined in one device that is based on a thin metallic grating with a single subwavelength slit. A proper choice of the structural (a)symmetry of the grating can result in obtaining one-way collimation and multiplexing with a single on-axis or off-axis, or two off-axis narrow outgoing beams. It is possible due to freedom in utilizing different combinations of the excitation conditions of the spoof surface plasmons at the four grating parts - right and left front-side and right and left back-side ones. Such a combining provides one with an efficient tool to engineer one-way collimators and multiplexers with the desired characteristics. Strong asymmetry in transmission with respect to the incidence direction (forward vs backward case) can be obtained within a wide range of variation of the incident beam parameters, i.e., angle of incidence and frequency, while the outgoing radiation is concentrated within a narrow range of the observation angle variation. Most of the observed asymmetric transmission features can be qualitatively explained using the concept of the equivalent source placed inside the slit.

Extracting photons efficiently from quantum sources, such as atoms, molecules, and quantum dots, is crucial for various nanophotonic systems used in quantum communication, sensing, and computation. To improve the performance of these systems, it is not only necessary to provide an environment that maximizes the number of optical modes, but it is also desirable to guide the extracted light toward specific directions. One way to achieve this goal is to use a large area metasurface that can steer the beam.

The purpose of this study was to directly compare the plan quality of Gamma Knife (GK) (Elekta, Stockholm, Sweden)- vs linear accelerator (LINAC)-based delivery techniques for fractionated stereotactic radiotherapy (fSRT) of large brain metastases. Eighteen patients with clinical target volumes (CTVs) larger than 9.5 cc were selected to generate comparative plans for the prescription dose of 9 Gy × 3 fractions, utilizing the Eclipse (Varian, Palo Alto, US) vs Leksell GammaPlan (LGP) (Elekta, Stockholm, Sweden) treatment planning systems (TPS).

Background: Despite recent technological advances allowing for quantitative single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT), quantitative SPECT has not been widely used in the clinical practice of osteoporosis. The aim of this study is to evaluate the feasibility of quantitative bone SPECT/CT for measuring lumbar standard uptake value (SUV) in patients with different bone-mineral density (BMD), and investigate the correlation between SUV measured with Tc-methylene diphosphonate (MDP) SPECT/CT and BMD assessment by dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA).
Methods: A retrospective analysis of 62 cases Tc-MDP whole-body bone imaging and local lumbar SPECT/CT tomography were performed.

Purpose: Dosimetric accuracy is critical when switching a patient treated with stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) or stereotactic fractionated radiotherapy (SRT) among beam-matched linacs. In this study, the dose delivery accuracy of volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT) plans for SBRT/SRT patients were evaluated on three beam-matched linacs.
Method: Beam data measurements such as percentage depth dose (PDD ), beam profiles, output factors, and multi-leaf collimator (MLC) leaf transmission factor for 6 MV photon beam were performed on three beam-matched linacs.
The potassium tantalate niobate (KTN) optical beam deflector is an electro-optic deflector without any moving parts that works at frequencies higher than 200 kHz. In this paper, we discuss the performance parameters of this deflector. Optical beams are bent by the spatial distribution of the refractive index in the KTN crystal block used in this deflector.
