We demonstrate mid-infrared (mid-IR) supercontinuum generation (SCG) with instantaneous bandwidth from 2.2 to 5 μm at 40 dB below the peak, covering the wavelength range desirable for molecular spectroscopy and numerous other applications. The SCG occurs in a tapered As(2)S(3) fiber prepared by in-situ tapering and is pumped by femtosecond pulses from the subharmonic of a mode-locked Er-doped fiber laser. Interference with a narrow linewidth c.w. laser verifies that the coherence properties of the near-IR frequency comb have been preserved through these cascaded nonlinear processes. With this approach stable broad mid-IR frequency combs can be derived from commercially available near-IR frequency combs without an extra stabilization mechanism.

We demonstrate that amplitude modulation of a high-peak-power femtosecond laser pulse allows to change fundamentally the frequency-angular structure (FAS) of the supercontinuum formed during the filamentation in both molecular and atomic gases. Particularly, modulation with a 4-hole mask forms an inverted pattern of conical emission (CE) with its predominance in the Stokes wing of the pulse spectrum. We explain this phenomenon as a joint effect of self-phase modulation and temporal pulse splitting of interfering beamlets formed by the modulating mask.

Article Synopsis
  • This study examines how the shape factor (k) influences the mode properties of graded-index ring-core fibers (GIRCF), specifically focusing on a design with 50 mol% Ge-doping and a shape factor of 2.
  • The research demonstrates that this GIRCF configuration can produce supercontinuum light with orbital angular momentum (OAM) modes, featuring a flat dispersion with slight variations over a wide wavelength range of 750 to 3055 nm.
  • The introduction of a graded refractive index profile (RIP) enhances ring-core fiber design by promoting flat dispersion, minimizing spin-orbit coupling, and enabling better mode purity and broader spectral coverage.

Bound states in the continuum (BIC) refers to waves that are entirely confined within the continuous spectrum of radiation waves without interacting with them. In our study, we attempted to construct a waveguide satisfying BIC conditions by forming a polymer layer on a 4H-SiC substrate, positioned on an insulator. By fine-tuning the waveguide parameters, we minimized losses to the substrate continuum and determined that the lowest loss meeting BIC conditions occurs when the HSQ width is 1.

The red edge effect of plants is extensively utilized in vegetation remote sensing, particularly by applying hyperspectral LiDAR (HSL) technology. This technology effectively captures spectral information from targets together with range measurements by processing recorded waveforms in the red-edge spectral bands. Despite its widespread use, there is still potential for enhancing the tuning accuracy and the energy output of each channel.
