Research Question: What is the expression pattern of Raf kinase inhibitory protein (RKIP) in different subtypes of leiomyoma (usual type, cellular, apoplectic or haemorrhagic leiomyoma, leiomyoma with bizarre nuclei and lipoleiomyoma) and leiomyosarcoma specimens, and what is its biological role in leiomyosarcoma cells?
Design: Leiomyoma and leiomyosarcoma specimens underwent immunohistochemistry staining. Leiomyosarcoma SK-LMS-1 cell line was RKIP knocked down and RKIP overexpressed, and cell viability, wound healing migration and clonogenicity assays were carried out.
Results: A higher immunohistochemical expression of RKIP was observed in bizarre leiomyomas, than in usual-type leiomyomas.

Horizontal transfer (HT) of genes between multicellular animals, once thought to be extremely rare, is being more commonly detected, but its global geographic trend and transfer mechanism have not been investigated. We discovered a unique HT pattern of Bovine-B (BovB) LINE retrotransposons in vertebrates, with a bizarre transfer direction from predators (snakes) to their prey (frogs). At least 54 instances of BovB HT were detected, which we estimate to have occurred across time between 85 and 1.

Objective: Understanding the pathways to care for migrants experiencing a first episode of psychosis is important, as they are more likely to experience longer delays to treatment and negative experiences, such as involuntary treatment. Despite the increased risk of developing a psychotic illness and barriers associated with pathways to care, there are limited studies exploring pathways to care in migrants in Australia. This study seeks to examine pathways to care for young people with a first episode of psychosis to a publicly funded youth mental health service.

Neutrophils mediate critical innate immune responses by migrating to sites of infection or inflammation, phagocytosing microorganisms, and releasing an arsenal of antimicrobial agents, including reactive oxygen species. These functions are shared by other innate immune cell types, but an interesting feature of neutrophils is their hallmark lobulated nuclei. Although why this bizarre nuclear shape forms is still being elucidated, studies of two intermediate filament proteins that associate with the nuclear envelope, lamin A and C, indicate that expression levels of these proteins govern nuclear maturation.

Furrows, lines and wrinkles with distensibility and retractility are a biological need of skin in the service of skin integrity, plasticity and joint motion. The fundamental segmentation and linearity of skin is genetically coded, manifested early in embryonal life and remarkably constant throughout life. The basic pattern established early in embryonal life when facial segments expand and fuse is confounded by overlapping linearities of different backgrounds.
