Objective: This study was carried out to show possible similarities between discoid lupus erythematosus clinical signs and histopathological findings and dermatophytosis.
Patient And Methods: A 43-year-old woman with diffused erythematous scaling lesions on her neck was studied. Skin biopsy was performed using H&E and PAS staining. Direct microscopic examination and mycological culture of specimens were done as well.
Results: Histopathological examination suggested she was suffering from discoid lupus erythematosus; however mycological findings confirmed Trichophyton verrucosum as the etiologic agent of lesions. She was successfully treated with oral terbinafine and clotrimazole cream.
Conclusion: Regarding to the results of this study, there are some similarities between dermatophytosis and skin infections such as discoid lupus erythematosus.

Introduction: Previous studies have investigated the density of dermal papillae (DP) in normal skin using reflectance confocal microscopy (RCM), a non-invasive imaging technique that allows a real time, high-resolution imaging of the skin, although no histological confirmation was provided. The aim of the present study was to compare the RCM evaluation of DP density in healthy skin with horizontal histopathological sections (HHS), a technique that provides a horizontal view of the skin.

Discoid lupus erythematosus is a chronic, recurring, autoimmune skin disease causing annular, scarring plaques on the head and neck. Deucravacitinib, a tyrosine kinase 2 inhibitor in the Janus kinase inhibitor family, represents an emerging treatment option in systemic lupus erythematosus with potential applicability to discoid lupus erythematosus. Nasal planum dermatoses in dogs can be infectious, immune-mediated, allergic, neoplastic, and metabolic in nature. Recognizing key lesions and features and knowing how and when to biopsy can help distinguish between similar diseases. The focus of this article is to review the most commonly encountered nasal planum dermatoses in dogs and to enable the veterinary practitioner to recognize and differentiate between them to obtain a diagnosis.
