Recheck magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) studies are critical to assess response to treatment and correctly determine both a horse's ability to return to exercise and an appropriate exercise program. As with any other modality, many diagnoses require additional monitoring. This principle applies to MRI despite the more significant financial investment and potential requirement for general anesthesia. This article explores the use of recheck MRIs in case management and proposes time frames for these studies based on the initial diagnosis.

Nonketotic hyperglycemia-induced hemichorea is a rare condition of type 2 diabetes. It is characterized by hyperglycemia with the symptom traced to the basal ganglion like hemichorea or hemiballism, with the hyperintensity within basal ganglion presented in computed tomography (CT) or hyper signal in T1-weighted magnetic resonance image (MRI). It was also confirmed with a relatively better prognosis in that the symptoms of these patients could be relieved after the alleviation of hyperglycemia.

A 10-year-old female spayed boxer was treated with stereotactic radiotherapy (SRT) for a suspected glioma in the left piriform lobe. The intra-axial lesion was T2 hyperintense, T2 FLAIR hyperintense, T1 hypointense, and did not uptake contrast. Imaging was performed with an MRI every 3 months, and at the 6-month recheck, new lesions in the left hippocampus and right piriform lobe were evident without clinically apparent neurological progression.
