[Enophthalmic orbital metastasis].

Ophthalmologica

Published: May 1980

Some orbital metastases (16 cases in the literature and 2 personal cases) involve a histologically typical enophtalmos with profuse fibrous stroma. They arise after squirrhous carcinoma of the breast or plastic linitis of the stomach.

Decoding Periorbital Aging: A Multilayered Analysis of Anatomical Changes.

Aesthetic Plast Surg

February 2025

Division of Plastic and Maxillofacial Surgery, Department of Surgery, Ramathibodi Hospital, Mahidol University, Bangkok, Thailand.

Background: Periorbital aging is a complex phenomenon that involves multiple layers of facial anatomy, including bone, fat, and globe. While previous studies have predominantly focused on age-related changes in facial fat compartments, this research aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of all periorbital components, including upper and lower orbital fat, orbital cavity volume, globe volume, and globe position, in the context of aging.

Methods: We conducted a retrospective study involving 118 patients (236 subjects) aged 18-99 years who underwent brain MRI using a 3 Tesla MR system.

Purpose: To report a case of retrograde embolism of cosmetic injection of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) to the ophthalmic artery, resulting in orbital ischemia, blindness, and eventual phthisis bulbi.

Observations: A 37-year-old woman presented with two days of vision loss OS beginning seconds after undergoing cosmetic PRP filler injections to the face at an outside clinic. Immediately after injection to the left medial forehead, the patient reported bleeding, transient loss of consciousness, and complete vision loss OS.

Purpose: To describe the efficacy and persistence of injectable calcium hydroxyapatite (CAHY) to correct orbital volume deficit in postenucleation socket syndrome.

Methods: An observational study was conducted as a clinical review of all patients in the authors' practice who received injectable CAHY placed in the extraconal and intraconal space to increase orbital volume with a 10-year follow up. The amount of CAHY to be injected was defined according to the degree of orbital volume deficit.

Purpose: To evaluate autologous fat grafts harvested from the abdomen versus the thigh for treating the enophthalmic socket using CT volumetry.

Methods: A randomized prospective interventional study including 20 patients suffering from unilateral enophthalmic socket. Pre-operative clinical assessment included photographs, exophthalmometry reading as well as CT volumetry for volume deficit calculations and the harvesting site was randomly allocated (abdomen or thigh).

4D printed orbital stent for the treatment of enophthalmic invagination.

Biomaterials

December 2022

Centre for Composite Materials and Structures, Harbin Institute of Technology, No.2 Yikuang Street, Harbin, 150080, People's Republic of China. Electronic address:

Currently, the implants used for enophthalmic invagination have the disadvantages of precise filling difficulty, weak filling ability, large surgical wounds, and lack of CT development. Here, a CT-developable orbital stent was manufactured via 4D printing of a shape memory polyurethane composite for enophthalmos treatment. The composite was endowed with good CT development properties via incorporation of gold nanoparticles and nano-hydroxyapatite.
