Optofluidic lasers have emerged as a new research field over the past few years. Most frequently they use conventional dye molecules as the gain medium. In this Letter, we demonstrate a laser emission produced by the coupling of the evanescent whispering gallery modes that resonate in a cylindrical microresonator to a newly developed gain medium. This medium is formed by attachment of a 7-nitrobenzo [c] [1,2,5]-oxadiazol-4-yl fluorescent tag to tamoxifen, the most widely used drug in the treatment of breast cancer. The antitumor character of the gain medium paves the way to novel biophotonic applications.

Arid and semiarid regions have particularities that make more difficult hydrological modeling, such as shallow soils, pronounced temporal and spatial irregularity of precipitation, and sometimes, lack of consistent data. In order to contribute to the hydrological studies in these regions, this research used the CAWM IV model (Campus Agreste Watershed Model Version IV), specially developed for applications in these areas. This model was used to simulate the input of natural flows in the Castanhão reservoir, the most important reservoir in the state of Ceará, northeast of Brazil.

Giant cell arteritis (GCA) is a primary systemic vasculitis affecting the elderly, characterized by a granulomatous vessel wall inflammation of large- and medium-sized arteries. The immunopathology of GCA is complex, involving both the innate and adaptive arms of the immune system, where a maladaptive inflammatory-driven vascular repair process ultimately results in vessel wall thickening, intramural vascular smooth muscle cell proliferation, neovascularization and vessel lumen occlusion, which can lead to serious ischemic complications such as visual loss and ischemic stroke. Over the past decade, microRNA (miRNA) dysregulation has been highlighted as an important contributing factor underlying the pathogenesis of GCA.

The inclusion of forage sources in calf diets is often discussed, and the main point debated is whether the inclusion level, particle size, source, and how forage is offered may impact gut fill and reduce body weight gain, as well as impact gastrointestinal tract development. This study aimed to determine the effects of feeding forage sources with different qualities on rumen fermentation, gut fill, and development of the gastrointestinal tract of dairy calves. Forty-eight Holstein dairy calves were blocked according to sex and body weight (BW) at 28 days of life and randomly assigned to 1 of 4 dietary treatments.
