This work employs novel SnO(2) gel-like precursors in conjunction with sol-gel deposited ZrO(2) gate dielectrics to realize high-performance transparent transistors. Representative devices show excellent performance and transparency, and deliver mobility of 103 cm(2) V(-1) s(-1) in saturation at operation voltages as low as 2 V, a sub-threshold swing of only 0.3 V/decade, and /(on) //(off) of 10(4) ~10(5) .

Different nitrogen conditions regulating extracellular polymeric substances and erosion resistance of sewer sediment: Mechanism of microbial metabolism and molecular response.

Electronic address:

Nitrogen biotransformation plays a vital role in the metabolism of microbial communities in sewers. Extracellular polymeric substances (EPS) secreted by microbial communities can form gel-like sewer sediments, causing clogging of the sewer. However, knowledge on the effects of varying nitrogen conditions on the erosion resistance of sewer sediments and EPS produced by sewer microorganisms is limited.

Biodegradable and biocompatible polymer-based nanoparticles (NPs) hold great promise for various industries. We report the first development of composite NPs consisting of starch (St) and polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) using the nanoprecipitation technique with ethanol as an antisolvent. We varied the St:PVA ratios in the precursor solutions to evaluate their impact on the structure and properties of the composite NPs.

Cellulose membranes were prepared from an EMIMAc ionic liquid solution by nonsolvent-induced phase separation (NIPS) in coagulation baths of water-acetone mixtures, ethanol-water mixtures and water at different temperatures. High water volume fractions in the coagulation bath result in a highly reproducible gel-like structure with inhomogeneities observed by small-angle neutron scattering (SANS). A structural transition of cellulose takes place in water-acetone baths at very low water volume fractions, while a higher water bath temperature increases the size of inhomogeneities in the gel-like structure.

Time evolution of moduli of a polymer-induced liquid precursor (PILP) of calcium carbonate.

Chem Commun (Camb)

April 2024

Physical Sciences Division, Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, WA, 99354, USA.

AFM observations show that when PILP droplets contact a surface, their initial properties are either a liquid with a high interfacial tension (350 mJ m) or a soft gel-like material with a low modulus (less than 0.2 MPa). These findings suggest that PILP may initially be liquid-like to infiltrate collagen fibrils, enabling the production of interpenetrating composites, and/or become viscoelastic, to provide a means for moulding minerals.

Spontaneous Transition of Spherical Coacervate to Vesicle-Like Compartment.

Adv Sci (Weinh)

February 2024

Department of Chemical Engineering and Applied Chemistry, Chungnam National University, Daejeon, 34134, South Korea.

Numerous biological systems contain vesicle-like biomolecular compartments without membranes, which contribute to diverse functions including gene regulation, stress response, signaling, and skin barrier formation. Coacervation, as a form of liquid-liquid phase separation (LLPS), is recognized as a representative precursor to the formation and assembly of membrane-less vesicle-like structures, although their formation mechanism remains unclear. In this study, a coacervation-driven membrane-less vesicle-like structure is constructed using two proteins, GG1234 (an anionic intrinsically disordered protein) and bhBMP-2 (a bioengineered human bone morphogenetic protein 2).
