Background: Dementia impacts the way individuals perceive and describe everyday events. Alzheimer's disease (AD) notably affects processing of entities manifested by nouns, while behavioral variant frontotemporal dementia (bvFTD) often presents a detached, third-person perspective. Yet, the potential of natural language processing tools (NLP) to detect these variations in spontaneous speech remains explored.

Here, we test the feasibility of a new risk reduction program called Brain Wellness Information, Support, and Empowerment (Brain-WISE). Its unique features are that it (1) is aligned with a theoretical model of behavior change, (2) is relatively brief (six 90-min sessions), (3) is conducted with groups of people who have pre-existing community; (4) includes individual and group activities and person-centered health goals; and (5) is conducted with speech-language therapists.

Background: Cognitive decline often follows human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection, yet the specific risk factors for developing Alzheimer's disease and related dementia (ADRD) in HIV patients remain elusive.
Method: To investigate the association between acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS) status at the time of HIV diagnosis and the risk of ADRD, we conducted a retrospective cohort study using data from a nationwide claim database spanning 2008 to 2021. During the study period, 13,289 patients were newly diagnosed with HIV infection and were prescribed antiretroviral therapy (ART).
Background: The escalating prevalence of dementia in Africa, propelled by rapidly ageing population, necessitates innovative approaches to raise awareness and address associated challenges. The prevalent misconception of dementia as a result of witchcraft or wizardry is a challenge, and the media acts as a key agent in dispelling such myths. By reaching divers audiences, the media reinforces the notion that dementia is not confined to Africa alone but it is a global concern.

Background: Rural populations are under-represented in cognitive studies worldwide. The few extant studies report differences in risk profiles for pre-dementia and dementia syndromes among urban and rural residents. We compared risk factors and brain substrates of Motoric Cognitive Risk (MCR) syndrome, a pre-dementia syndrome identified by slow gait speed and subjective cognitive concerns, in urban and rural participants in the Kerala-Einstein study.
