Complexes [bzimAlR(2)](4) [bzim = benzimidazolate; R = Et (2), (i)Bu (3)], [mbzimAlR(2)](4) [mbzim = 2-methylbenzimidazolate; R = Et (6), (i)Bu (7)], [dmbzimAlR(2)](4) [dmbzim = 5,6-dimethylbenzimidazolate; R = Me (9), Et (10), (i)Bu (11)], and [tmbzimAlR(2)](4) [tmbzim = 2,5,6-trimethylbenzimidazolate; R = Me (12), Et (13), (i)Bu (14)] have been prepared via alkane elimination and coordinative self-assembly upon the reaction of benzimidazole ligands with aluminum alkyls in benzene, toluene, or xylene. Characterization of the complexes was achieved by spectroscopic methods, microanalysis, and X-ray crystallography of 2, 7, 10, 11, 13, and 14. The complexes reported herein and the aluminum and gallium analogues 1, 4, 5, and 8 reported in a previous paper (1) are predominantly tetranuclear aggregates related to calix[4]arenes in which the benzimidazolyl ligands bind two metal atoms in a η(1):η(1) fashion. X-ray crystallography demonstrates that modulation of the conformation adopted by these metallacalix[4]arenes is achieved by proper substitution on the C atom at the 2 position of the benzimidazolyl ligand. An H substituent for 1, 2, 4, 10, and 11 favors a chair conformation with a small cavity and approximate C(2h) symmetry, while a CH(3) substituent for 5, 7, 8, 13, and 14 introduces enough repulsion to switch the conformation to a 1,3-alternate or double cone with a concomitant larger cavity and approximate C(2v) symmetry.

The aim of this study was to compare the effectiveness of different types of low level laser treatment (LLLT) in reducing pain levels, changing oxygen saturation and bite force in patients with myofacial pain syndrome (MPS). 45 patients were randomly assigned to three groups: Group 1 (GRR laser, n = 15) received LLLT with Gallium-Aluminium-Arsenide (GaAlAs) diode laser with a wavelength of 904 nm and red laser with a wavelength of 650 nm over masseter muscle region. Group 2 (Nd: YAG laser, n = 15) were treated with Neodymium-doped Yttrium Aluminium Garnet laser with a wavelength of 1064 nm and the same protocol with Nd: YAG laser was performed in the Group 3 (placebo, n = 15) using sham device.

Point of Care (POC) diagnosis provides an effective approach for controlling and managing Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs). Electrochemical biosensors are well-suited for molecular diagnostics due to their high sensitivity, cost-effectiveness, and ease of integration into POC devices. Schistosomiasis is a prominent NTD highly prevalent in Africa, Asia, and Latin America, with significant socioeconomic implications such as discrimination, reduced work capacity, or mortality, perpetuating the cycle of poverty in affected regions worldwide.

Correlated photon-pair sources are key components for quantum computing, networking, synchronization, and sensing applications. Integrated photonics has enabled chip-scale sources using nonlinear processes, producing high-rate time-energy and polarization entanglement at telecom wavelengths with sub-100 microwatt pump power. Many quantum systems operate in the visible or near-infrared ranges, necessitating visible-telecom entangled-pair sources for connecting remote systems via entanglement swapping and teleportation.

Manipulating the optical landscape of single quantum dots (QDs) is essential to increase the emitted photon output, enhancing their performance as chemical sensors and single-photon sources. Micro-optical structures are typically used for this task, with the drawback of a large size compared to the embedded single emitters. Nanophotonic architectures hold the promise to modify dramatically the emission properties of QDs, boosting light-matter interactions at the nanoscale, in ultracompact devices.

We introduce a novel material for integrated photonics and investigate aluminum gallium nitride (AlGaN) on aluminum nitride (AlN) templates as a platform for developing reconfigurable and on-chip nonlinear optical devices. AlGaN combines compatibility with standard photonic fabrication technologies and high electro-optic modulation capabilities with low loss over a broad spectral range, from UVC to long-wave infrared, making it a viable material for complex photonic applications. In this work, we design and grow AlGaN/AlN heterostructures and integrate several photonic components.
