High contact resistance remains the primary obstacle that hinders further advancements of organic semiconductors (OSCs) in electronic circuits. While significant effort has been directed toward lowering the energy barrier at OSC/metal contact interfaces, approaches toward reducing another major contributor to overall contact resistance - the bulk resistance - have been limited to minimizing the thickness of OSC films. However, the out-of-plane conductivity of OSCs, a critical aspect of bulk resistance, has largely remained unaddressed.

Thickness-Dependent Nanoscale Elastic Stiffening of Chemical Vapor Deposited Atomically Thin 2H-MoS Films.

J Phys Chem Lett

April 2024

2D Materials and Devices Laboratory (2DML), Sir C. V. Raman Research Park, Department of Physics and Nanotechnology, SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST), Kattankulathur 603203, Chennai, India.

Understanding the nanoscale elastic-size-effects of atomically thin transition-metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) as a function of thickness underpins the avenue of flexible 2D electronics. In this work, we employed the atomic force acoustic microscopy (AFAM) technique to investigate the thickness-dependent elastic properties of CVD grown 2H-MoS films. The monolayer MoS exhibited a Young's modulus of 273 ± 27 GPa.

Enhancing the Thermoelectric Properties of Conjugated Polymers by Suppressing Dopant-Induced Disorder.

Adv Mater

June 2024

Optoelectronics Group, Cavendish Laboratory, JJ Thomson Avenue, Cambridge, CB3 0HE, UK.

Doping is a crucial strategy to enhance the performance of various organic electronic devices. However, in many cases, the random distribution of dopants in conjugated polymers leads to the disruption of the polymer microstructure, severely constraining the achievable performance of electronic devices. Here, it is shown that by ion-exchange doping polythiophene-based P[(3HT)-stat-(T)] (x = 0 (P1), 0.

Appropriate separation and enrichment steps can enhance the performance of SERS assays. For rapid, in-situ detection of carbaryl, a novel PA-6/AuNRs@ZIF-8 film that can be applied to dual-mode separation and SERS detection, has been developed. In the film, PA-6 was used as a TLC substrate for the initial separation of the substance to be measured.

Palladium films hold signicance due to their remarkable affinity for hydrogen diffusion, rendering them valauble for the seperation and purification of hydrogen in membrane reactors. However, palladium is expensive, and its films can become brittle after only a few cycles of hydrogen separation. Alloying with silver has been shown to overcome the problem of palladium embrittlement.
