Coding Variants of the Genitourinary Development Gene Carry High Risk for Prostate Cancer.

JCO Precis Oncol

January 2025

Medical Research Service, Department of Veterans Affairs, Tennessee Valley Healthcare System, Nashville, TN.

Purpose: Considerable genetic heterogeneity is currently thought to underlie hereditary prostate cancer (HPC). Most families meeting criteria for HPC cannot be attributed to currently known pathogenic variants.

Methods: To discover pathogenic variants predisposing to prostate cancer, we conducted a familial case-control association study using both genome-wide single-allele and identity-by-descent analytic approaches.

The broad temperature adaptability associated with the desolvation process remains a formidable challenge for organic electrolytes in rechargeable metal batteries, especially under low-temperature (LT) conditions. Although a traditional approach involves utilizing electrolytes with a high degree of anion participation in the solvation structure, known as weakly solvation electrolytes (WSEs), the solvation structure of these electrolytes is highly susceptible to temperature fluctuations, potentially undermining their LT performance. To address this limitation, we have devised an innovative electrolyte that harnesses the interplay between solvent molecules, effectively blending strong and weak solvents while incorporating anion participation in a solvation structure that remains mostly unchanged by temperature variations.

Objective: To investigate the incidence of skin changes at life's end (SCALE) among hospice patients and identify associated factors.

Methods: The authors conducted a retrospective chart review of demographic data, medical history, Braden Scale assessment scores, Charlson Comorbidity Index, symptom records, and medical treatments of patients admitted to a local teaching hospital's hospice unit between May 2019 and April 2021.

Results: Most (79%) of the 300 hospice patients included in the study had cancer.

The inferior colliculus is a key nucleus in the central auditory pathway, integrating acoustic stimuli from both cochleae and playing a crucial role in sound localization. It undergoes functional and structural development in childhood and experiences age-related degeneration later in life, contributing to the progression of age-related hearing loss. This study aims at finding out, whether the volume of the human inferior colliculus can be determined by analysis of routinely performed MRIs and whether there is any age-related variation.
