The designs of single transmission grating based extreme ultraviolet (XUV) and vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) imaging spectrometers can be adapted to build an imaging radiometer for simultaneous measurement of both spectral ranges. This paper describes the design of such an imaging radiometer with dual transmission gratings. The radiometer will have an XUV coverage of 20-200 Å with a ∼10 Å resolution and a VUV coverage of 200-2000 Å with a ~50 Å resolution. The radiometer is designed to have a spatial view of 16°, with a 0.33° resolution and a time resolution of ~10 ms. The applications for such a radiometer include spatially resolved impurity monitoring and electron temperature measurements in the tokamak edge and the divertor. As a proof of principle, the single grating instruments were used to diagnose a low temperature reflex discharge and the relevant data is also included in this paper.

Nighttime light (NTL) data is recognized as a reliable proxy for measuring the scope and intensity of human activity, finding wide application in studies such as urbanization monitoring, socioeconomic estimation, and ecological environment assessment. However, the substantial discrepancies and limited temporal coverage of existing NTL datasets have constrained their potential for long-term research applications. To address this, a Nighttime Light U-Net super-resolution network is proposed for the cross-sensor calibration between the Defense Meteorological Satellite Program-Operational Linescan System (DMSP-OLS) NTL data and the Suomi National Polar-Orbiting Partnership-Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (NPP-VIIRS) NTL data.

Emission estimates of carbon-containing greenhouse gases (CO, CH) and aerosols (PM) were made from forest fire across South Asia using Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) based thermal anomalies and fire products. VIIRS 375 m I-band active fire product was selectively retrieved for the years 2012-2021 over forest cover across South Asia. Annual incidence of fire events across South Asia was 0.

Our understanding of identifying and monitoring surge-type glacier distribution patterns, fluctuations, periodicities, and occurrence mechanism under the changing climate is challenging and scarce due to small numbers, limitations on the spatiotemporal coverage of remote sensing observations, and insufficient field-based glaciological data from the High Mountain Asia. The surging glaciers have caused major hazards, and their movement can destroy peripheral and downstream areas like roads, connecting bridges, villages, and hydropower stations and trigger a glacial lake outburst flood or form a dammed (moraine or ice) lake in High Mountain Asia (HMA) in the recent past. Many glaciers have experienced a mass loss and retreat due to ongoing climate change in HMA in recent decades, whereas studies conducted in the Karakorum, Pamir, Tien Shan, and Kunlun Shan regions have reported the surging of the glaciers.

Characterization of electromagnetic wave polarization states is critical in various applications of materials, biomedical, and imaging. The emergence of metasurfaces opens up the possibility of implementing highly integrated full-Stokes imagers. Despite rapid development, prevailing schemes on metasurface-based full-Stokes imagers require interleaved or cascaded designs, inevitably resulting in performance deterioration, bulky size, and complicating the imaging procedure due to misalignment.

Seamless observations of chlorophyll-a from OLCI and VIIRS measurements in inland lakes.

The Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) and Ocean and Land Colour Instrument (OLCI) are two main instruments for the ocean color community to observe the global lake environment in the following decades. Despite their applications to retrieve various water optical parameters, the spatial and temporal resolutions of individual sensors cannot meet the requirements for lake monitoring effectively. To date, the possibility of complementary observations through the OLCI-VIIRS data to lake aquatic environments remains unclear.
