A new soft x-ray (SXR) T(e) and tomography diagnostic has been developed for MST that can be used for simultaneous SXR spectrum measurement, tomographically reconstructed emissivity, and reconstructed and line-of-sight electron temperature. The diagnostic utilizes high-performance differential transimpedance amplifiers (gain 10(5)-10(9)) to provide fast time response (up to 125 kHz), allowing for the study of plasma structure dynamics. SXR double-foil T(e) measurements are consistent with Thomson scattering. SXR brightness through a variety of filter thicknesses has been combined with charge exchange recombination spectroscopy (CHERS) impurity density measurements to determine the plasma energy spectrum. Magnetic pickup from the fluctuating magnetic fields in the plasma (B̃∼20 gauss at 10-20 kHz) has been dramatically reduced by improving the detector and housing design, so that nanoampere diode currents are now measured without interference from the substantial fluctuating magnetic field incident on the plasma facing surface of the probe.

In the field of chiral smectic liquid crystals, orthoconic antiferroelectric liquid crystals (OAFLCs) have attracted the interest of the scientific community due to the very high tilt angle, close to 45°, and the consequent optical properties. In the present study, the first H NMR investigation is reported on two samples, namely 3F5HPhF9 and 3F7HPhF8, showing the phase sequence isotropic-SmC*-SmC* and the phase sequence isotropic-SmA-SmC*-SmC*, respectively, when cooling from the isotropic to the crystalline phases. To this aim, the liquid crystals were doped with a small amount of deuterated probe biphenyl-4,4'-diol-d.

Background: The aim of this study was to characterise the computed tomographic (CT) findings in domestic rabbits with clinically suspected rhinitis and compare them with CT findings in rabbits without clinical signs of rhinitis.
Methods: CT images of rabbits that underwent a CT of the head were retrospectively reviewed and any CT abnormalities were described. Statistical analysis was performed to detect any association between the CT findings and clinical signs of rhinitis, and also to assess if there was any association between rhinitis and otitis media, otitis externa or dental disease.
We demonstrate PaCMAN, a ptychography algorithm that can reconstruct high quality images with broadband illumination sources while being robust to shot, detector, and parasitic noise. We extend prior monochromatization work to improve accuracy, especially for discrete spectra, and also demonstrate how PaCMAN can be converted into Ms. PaCMAN, a multi-spectral variant that outperforms multi-spectral ePIE.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFFourth-generation synchrotron sources promise an enormous increase in the spatial coherence of X-ray radiation. In the EUV to soft X-ray range, the spatial coherence could reach almost 100% in both the horizontal and vertical directions. Identifying and understanding potential sources of degradation in the spatial coherence of X-rays transported along the beamline is critical to enable optimal performance for the experiments at the beamlines.

Background & Objectives: Differentiation of histologic subtypes of appendiceal mucoceles may prove to be difficult on computed tomography (CT). The main objective of this study was to identify the CT features of mucocele of the appendix and correlate the imaging findings with histopathology in inflammatory, benign, and malignant neoplastic lesions, and whether these entities can be accurately differentiated on CT imaging.
Materials And Methods: CT scans of 31 patients with diagnosis of appendiceal mucocele were retrospectively reviewed and compared with histopathology.
