We assessed the postoperative nasal form and symmetry after presurgical use of a Hotz plate (HP) in patients with unilateral complete cleft lip and palate (UCLP). The subjects were 28 infants with UCLP who underwent cheiloplasty. Of these subjects, 14 underwent presurgical orthopedic treatment using the HP (HP group) and 14 underwent the same treatment without the HP (non-HP group). Photographic records were obtained 1 and 6 months after cheiloplasty, and the results of anthropometric analysis were compared between the 2 groups. The nasal inclination and the ratio of the width of the nasal base to the total width of the nose were significantly improved in the HP group compared with the non-HP group at both postoperative time points. Thus, presurgical use of the HP significantly improved the nasal asymmetry and deformity in UCLP patients after primary cheiloplasty and nasal repair.

Aim: This study investigated the accuracy of intraoral scanner (IOS) based on different image acquisition technologies in the field of presurgical-orthopedictreatment (PSOT) in neonates with cleft.
Methods: Dental cast models of clinical situations representing unilateral cleft-lip-palate(UCLP), bilateral cleft-lippalate( BCLP) and cleft-palate(CP) with reference PEEK-scanbodies (Cares RC Mono-Scankörper, Straumann, Switzerland) were scanned utilizing four IOS systems: CareStream-CS3600®(CS), Medit-i500®(MD), Cerec-Omnicam®(SO), 3Shape-Trios-3®(TS). One calibrated operator made 5 scans from each model using each IOS (N=60).

Background: Clinical determination of patients at high risk of poor surgical outcomes is complex and may be supported by clinical tools to summarize the patient's own personalized electronic health record (EHR) history and vitals data through predictive risk models. Since prior models were not readily available for EHR-integration, our objective was to develop and validate a risk stratification tool, named the Assessment of Geriatric Emergency Surgery (AGES) score, predicting risk of 30-day major postoperative complications in geriatric patients under consideration for urgent and emergency surgery using pre-surgical existing electronic health record (EHR) data.
Methods: Patients 65-years and older undergoing urgent or emergency non-cardiac surgery within 21 hospitals 2017-2021 were used to develop the model (randomly split: 80% training, 20% test).

The management of anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries in pediatric patients presents unique challenges due to the presence of open growth plates in the proximal tibia and distal femur. Delaying ACL reconstruction until skeletal maturity may protect the physes but increases the risk of secondary injuries, such as meniscal tears and chondral damage, due to prolonged joint instability.
