Published: January 2004

Rapidly growing soft- tissue lesions in the oral and maxillofacial region can represent a variety of diagnoses involving radically different treatment modalities. Accurate diagnosis is important to avoid unnecessary and often mutilating surgery. Nodular fascitis is a rapidly proliferating fibroblastic lesion that presents as a tumour- like mass. Up to 20% of cases occur in the head and neck region.

Osteosarcoma (OS) is a rare form of malignant bone tumor affecting jaws. The diagnosis of jaws osteosarcoma (JO) presents a unique challenge due to its rarity and the diversity of histological presentations it can exhibit. Fibroblastic osteosarcoma (FO), a subtype of OS, is characterized by the presence of fibroblastic cells and osteoid-producing cells within the tumor matrix.

Nodular fasciitis (NF) and proliferative fasciitis (PF) are benign, reactive mesenchymal neoplasms that can mimic malignancies due to their rapid growth and histological characteristics. NF typically affects the subcutaneous tissue, occasionally involving muscles and fascia, predominantly in young adults, and appears frequently in the upper extremities, trunk, and head/neck. PF, a pseudosarcomatous lesion, primarily occurs in the subcutaneous tissue of adults aged 40-70 years and is uncommon in younger populations.

Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, King Hamad University Hospital, Busaiteen, BHR.

Nodular fasciitis (NF) is a rare, benign, yet rapidly proliferative myofibroblastic soft tissue tumor that often mimics malignant lesions and presents significant diagnostic challenges. This case report describes a 16-year-old female whose mid-thoracic mass was initially mismanaged in an emergency setting as a sebaceous cyst. The misdiagnosis and subsequent inappropriate incision and drainage led to an iatrogenic flare-up, exacerbating the patient's condition and complicating her management course.

The article describes a clinical case of a benign tumor from smooth muscle cells - piloleiomyoma. The incidence of leiomyoma in the skin is 3-5% of all leiomyomas. A 27-year-old patient applied to a medical institution with complaints about an intradermal formation in the ear region that occurred repeatedly within 5 months after surgical treatment.
