The primary functional abnormality in asthma is airway hyperresponsiveness (AHR)-excessive airway narrowing to bronchoconstrictor stimuli. Our understanding of the underlying mechanism(s) producing AHR is incomplete. While structure-function relationships have been evoked to explain AHR (e.g., increased airway smooth muscle (ASM) mass in asthma) more recently there has been a focus on how the dynamic mechanical environment of the lung impacts airway responsiveness in health and disease. The effects of breathing movements such as deep inspiration reveal innate protective mechanisms in healthy individuals that are likely mediated by dynamic ASM stretch but which may be impaired in asthmatic patients and thereby facilitate AHR. This perspective considers the evidence for and against a role of dynamic ASM stretch in limiting the capacity of airways to narrow excessively. We propose that lung function measured after bronchial provocation in the laboratory and changes in lung function perceived by the patient in everyday life may be quite different in their dependence on dynamic ASM stretch.

Data is the core foundation of intelligent operation and maintenance, but currently, there is generally insufficient data for wastewater treatment plants, and the status of wastewater treatment systems dynamically evolves with the changes in the internal and external environment. The intelligent operation and maintenance of wastewater plants face difficulties in modeling and model drift caused by system evolution. In response to this issue, the summer and winter seasons with significant differences in wastewater temperature, wastewater quality, and microbial status were selected as typical comparison scenarios.

Objective: Juvenile myoclonic epilepsy (JME) is associated with large-scale brain network dysfunction. This study aims to investigate how anti-seizure medication (ASM) treatment alters resting-state functional networks in JME patients through resting-state EEG microstate analysis.
Methods: Ninety-six subjects participated in this study: 24 healthy controls (HC), 29 newly diagnosed JME patients who had not started ASMs therapy (JME-NM), and 43 JME patients on ASMs treatment with effective seizure control (JME-M).

The origin of stereocontrol in ring opening polymerization (ROP) of racemic lactide (rac-LA) promoted by achiral aluminium-based catalysts has been explained through DFT calculations combined with a molecular descriptor (%V) and the activation strain model (ASM-NEDA) analysis. The proposed chain end control (CEC) model suggests that the ligand framework adopts a chiral configuration mimicking the enantiomorphic site control (ESC) while also incorporating control of the last inserted monomer unit. It is found that the ligand wrapping mode around the aluminium centre is dictated by the monomer configuration (R,R-LA and S,S-LA).

Curricular guidelines promote standardized approaches to coverage of essential knowledge and skills in undergraduate education. The American Society for Microbiology (ASM) Curriculum Guidelines for Undergraduate Microbiology were developed in 2012. Continuous, rapid growth of knowledge in science and a dynamic, changing world necessitate updates to these guidelines.
