Objective: To present a new case of renal infarction.

Methods: We report the case of an 84-year-old woman presenting with right flank colic pain of 24 hours of evolution and past history of acute myocardial infarction four months before.

Conclusion: Renal infarction is a rare condition; in most of the cases it does not show specific symptoms and usually overlap with other more common urologic procedures, which results in a delay in diagnosis and treatment. The most conclusive imaging tests are i.v contrast CT scan or Doppler ultrasound but definitive diagnosis is achieved by angiography or CT angiography. Treatment is conservative, with parenteral and oral anticoagulation; invasive management is rare.

Incidence and predictors of weaning failure from veno-arterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation therapy in patients with cardiogenic shock.

Eur J Heart Fail

January 2025

Department for Internal Medicine and Cardiology, Technische Universität Dresden, Heart Centre Dresden, University Hospital, Dresden, Germany.

Aims: This study aimed to investigate incidence and predictors of weaning failure and in-hospital death after successful weaning from veno-arterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (VA-ECMO) in patients with cardiogenic shock (CS).

Methods And Results: Overall, 685 patients with CS treated with VA-ECMO from 23 tertiary care centres in 7 countries were analysed (median age 57 [interquartile range 49-66] years, 542 [79.1%] male, median lactate 7.

Rationale & Objective: In the general population, neighborhood socioeconomic status (SES) has been found to be associated with cardiovascular risk, but this relationship has not been well studied among patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD). This study seeked to evaluate the association between neighborhood SES and cardiovascular outcomes in a CKD cohort.

Study Design: Multicenter prospective cohort.

Background: Liver transplant (LT) patients face various challenges, including an increased risk of coronary artery disease (CAD) for a variety of reasons, with 70% of LT recipients having one cardiovascular event. Coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) remains one of the most commonly performed major surgical procedures in the United States, with 20-30% of LT patients requiring a CABG. Many studies have analyzed when to perform a CABG and CAD workup pre-LT, but this population remains a problem.

In clinical practice, the impact of procedural or patient-related risk factors on 1-year clinical outcomes in patients receiving 1-month of dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT) followed by P2Y12 inhibitor monotherapy after contemporary percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) remains unclear. Using data from the multi-center REIWA registry which included patients treated with thin-strut biodegradable polymer drug-eluting stent (BP-DES) and 1-month DAPT followed by P2Y12 inhibitor monotherapy, we assessed the primary endpoint (a composite of cardiovascular death, myocardial infarction, definite stent thrombosis, ischemic or hemorrhagic stroke, and major or minor bleeding) in patients with and without procedural (treatment of three vessels, three or more lesions, three or more stents, bifurcation with two stents, long stenting, and target of chronic total occlusion) and patient-related risk factor (renal insufficiency, anemia, peripheral vascular disease, prior or current history of heart failure and advanced age of ≥ 75 years). Among the 1,202 patients who underwent complete revascularization by PCI, 276 (23.

Background: People living with alcohol use disorder (AUD) who develop Type 2 Diabetes (T2DM) may be at higher risk of diabetes-complications.

Aim: Our aims were to compare diabetes-monitoring and incidence of diabetes-complications between people with and without AUD prior to T2DM diagnosis attending primary care in England.

Design & Setting: We used the Clinical Practice Research Datalink (CPRD) Aurum linked with Hospital Episode Statistics (HES) and Office for National Statistics (ONS) mortality data.
