Fourteen patients who were treated for symptomatic congenital lacrimal sac fistula were retrospectively reviewed to evaluate surgical success. Excision of the fistula alone was performed on 9 patients and excision with nasolacrimal intubation on 5 patients (to our knowledge, the latter has not been previously described in the English literature). None of the 14 patients were symptomatic postoperatively during a mean follow-up of 16 months, with a range from 3 to 39 months. We conclude that dacryocystorhinostomy is usually not necessary to successfully treat symptomatic congenital lacrimal sac fistula.

Purpose: To explore the current state of diagnosis and management of neonatal conjunctivitis.
Methods: Cosmos, an EHR-based, de-identified data set including more than 200 million patients, was used for this study. Neonates born between January 1, 2016 and December 31, 2022, discharged from the hospital by day 3 of life, and with an ambulatory visit within the first 4 weeks of life associated with a new diagnosis of neonatal conjunctivitis (SNOMED) or conjunctivitis (ICD-10 H10.

Purpose: To evaluate the role of Streptococcus pneumoniae, Staphylococcus aureus, Haemophilus influenzae, Serratia marcescens, and Moraxella catarrhalis in the nasal and ocular surface flora, along with their metabolic activities in children with unilateral congenital nasolacrimal duct obstruction (CNLDO).
Methods: Swabs were taken from the bilateral inferior meatus and ocular surface of 26 children with unilateral CNLDO before probing. Nasal and ocular surface swabs from non-operated eyes of children who underwent unilateral blepharoptosis or strabismus surgery formed the control group.

Background: Congenital nasolacrimal duct obstructions that persist after 9 months of age often require surgical intervention through probing and stenting of the tear duct. These procedures typically occur under general anesthesia in an operating room setting. We propose a novel approach using intravenous sedation outside the operating room.
