Background: There is a lack of data on the validation and diagnostic performance of the Freestyle Optium Neo-H (Freestyle) and Centrivet GK (Centrivet) devices for the diagnosis of hypoglycaemia, hyperglycaemia and hyperketonaemia in goats.
Objectives: The aim of the present study was to validate the Freestyle and Centrivet for the analysis of whole blood beta-hydroxybutyric acid (BHBA) and to validate the Freestyle for the analysis of whole blood glucose concentrations using the reference method (RM) in goat blood collected from the jugular and ear veins.
Methods: Venous blood samples were utilised to assess glucose and BHBA concentrations using the Freestyle, Centrivet and RM.
Objective: To evaluate actual myocardial energy requirements using indirect calorimetry, oxygen delivery (DO), oxygen extraction ratio (OER), cardiac output (CO) and their components, as well as to study the impact of positive inotropic agent (dobutamine) on myocardial metabolism in early postoperative period after cardiac surgery.
Material And Methods: We measured the main metabolic parameters using indirect calorimetry in 20 patients after on-pump cardiac surgery with cardioplegia. To evaluate the impact of metabolic load on CO, VO and DO, we administered dobutamine 3 µg/kg/min at the second phase of the study.

D-dimer assessment has several established roles in venous thromboembolism (VTE) and disseminated intravascular coagulation diagnosis, and recently the risk stratification of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). D-dimer assays are neither standardized nor harmonized, use varying methodologies, and use different reporting units, all resulting in a lack of interchangeability and generalizability of assays. Using large multiyear datasets from an international laboratory quality assurance program, we assessed (1) common D-dimer assays in use worldwide, (2) differences in analytical performance between different methods, and (3) interlaboratory variability between positive samples.

Background: Thromboprophylaxis for medically ill patients during hospitalization and postdischarge remains underutilized. Clinical decision support (CDS) may address this need if embedded within workflow, interchangeable among electronic health records (EHRs), and anchored on a validated model.
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to assess the clinical impact of a universal EHR-integrated CDS tool based on the International Medical Prevention Registry on Venous Thromboembolism plus D-Dimer venous thromboembolism model.

Objective: Central venous-arterial PCO to arterial-central venous O content ratio (PCO/CO) is commonly used as a surrogate for respiratory quotient (RQ) and tissue oxygenation. Although PCO/CO might be associated with hyperlactatemia and outcome, neither the interchangeability with RQ nor the correlation with conclusive variables of anaerobic metabolism has never been demonstrated in septic shock. Our goal was to compare PCO/CO and RQ in patients with septic shock.
