Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) is a syndrome characterized by increased pulmonary vascular resistance and elevated pulmonary artery pressure, ultimately leading to right heart failure and even death. Increasing evidence implicates the fat mass and obesity-associated protein (FTO) in various metabolic and inflammatory pathways; however, its role in pulmonary endothelial function and PAH remains largely unexplored. In this study, we examined the effects of endothelial cell-specific FTO knockout on PAH development.

The new definition of metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) emphasises the metabolic drivers of steatosis and recognises its frequent coexistence with other chronic liver diseases, including HCV. Increased thrombotic events that occur in up to one-third of patients with COVID-19 are predominantly pulmonary emboli (PE), which are associated with higher severity and increased mortality. Acute PE should therefore be one of the main differential diagnoses among patients with hemodynamic instability. Early treatment of such a condition with systemic thrombolysis remains the first line of treatment especially in patients with COVID-19, which hinders further invasive intervention.

Pulmonary vascular diseases, particularly when accompanied by pulmonary hypertension, are complex disorders often requiring multimodal imaging for diagnosis and monitoring. Echocardiography is the primary screening tool for pulmonary hypertension, while cardiac MR imaging (CMR) is used for more detailed characterization and risk stratification in right ventricular failure. Chest computed tomography (CT) is used to detect vascular anomalies and parenchymal lung diseases.
