Phospholipase A2 (PLA2) catalyzes the hydrolysis of the sn-2 acyl ester linkage in phospholipid, producing lysophospholipid and fatty acid in the presence of Ca2+. The hydrolysis mediated by PLA2 has attracted much interest in various fields, such as pharmacy and biotechnology. It is recognized that PLA2 cannot hydrolyze phospholipid monolayers at high surface coverage.

We report on a new method for the characterization of local structures in proteins based on extensive molecular dynamics (MD) simulations, here, 1 μs in length. The N-H bond of the Rho GTPase binding domain of plexin-B1 (RBD) serves as a probe and the potential, (MD), which restricts its internal motion, as a qualifier of the local dynamic structure. (MD) is derived from the MD trajectory as a function of the polar angles, (θ, φ), which specify the N-H orientation in the protein.

Nasal base aesthetics is an interesting and challenging issue that attracts the attention of researchers in recent years. With that insight, in this study, we propose a novel automatic framework (AF) for evaluating the nasal base which can be useful to improve the symmetry in rhinoplasty and reconstruction. The introduced AF includes a hybrid model for nasal base landmarks recognition and a combined model for predicting nasal base symmetry.

In the food industry, there is a growing demand for cost-effective methods for the inline inspection of food items able to non-invasively detect small foreign bodies that may have contaminated the product during the production process. Microwave imaging may be a valid alternative to the existing technologies, thanks to its inherently low-cost and its capability of sensing low-density contaminants. In this paper, a simple microwave imaging system specifically designed to enable the inspection of a large variety of food products is presented.
