The two states of a new nanomechanical switch were quantitatively and reversibly populated in several subsequent switching cycles using either Cu(+) or cyclam as chemical inputs. State II was demonstrated to cis-trans isomerise diazastilbene upon irradiation selectively in the presence of stilbene, and even to operate as a photocatalyst.

An electrochromic (EC) sensing strategy was presented through analyte-induced disassembly of an EC metal-organic framework-based nanocomposite. Carbon dots underwent charge reversion to separate from the entity stimulated by analytes, acting as a nanoswitch of the EC activity. We achieved colorimetric detection of glucose the EC activity recovery mediated by released protons during glucose oxidation.

DNA has shown great biocompatibility, programmable mechanical properties, and precise structural addressability at the nanometer scale, rendering it a material for constructing versatile nanorobots for biomedical applications. Here, we present the design principle, synthesis, and characterization of a DNA nanorobotic hand, called DNA NanoGripper, that contains a palm and four bendable fingers as inspired by naturally evolved human hands, bird claws, and bacteriophages. Each NanoGripper finger consists of three phalanges connected by three rotatable joints that are bendable in response to the binding of other entities.

This study aimed to achieve rapid detection of Parkinson's disease (PD) plasma exosome miR-107. A case-control design was used to collect ten Parkinson's disease and ten healthy control plasma samples from the Department of Laboratory Medicine, Tongji Hospital, Tongji Medical College of Huazhong University of Science and Technology from December 2023 to January 2024. Exosome detection via the ultrafast-isolation system (EXODUS) was used to isolate plasma exosomes.

Biological nanostructures change their shape and function in response to external stimuli, and significant efforts have been made to design artificial biomimicking devices operating on similar principles. In this work we demonstrate a programmable nanofluidic switch, driven by elastocapillarity, and based on nanochannels built from layered two-dimensional nanomaterials possessing atomically smooth surfaces and exceptional mechanical properties. We explore operational modes of the nanoswitch and develop a theoretical framework to explain the phenomenon.

Designing Multimodal ON-OFF Nanoswitches of DNA-Functionalized Nanoparticles by Stimuli-Responsive Polymers.

Department of Polymer Science and Engineering, State Key Laboratory of Coordination Chemistry, Key Laboratory of High Performance Polymer Materials and Technology of Ministry of Education, School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Nanjing University, Nanjing 210023, China.

It is a challenging task to realize highly reversible ON-OFF nanoswitches over a wide range of temperatures, which emerge as a versatile toolbox for use in nanobiotechnology. Herein, nanoparticles (NPs) bifunctionalized by DNA strands and stimuli-responsive polymers are proposed to construct multimodal ON-OFF nanoswitches by the coarse-grained model. The successful achievement of multimodal ON-OFF nanoswitches for bifunctionalized NPs at lower temperatures is attributed to the synergistic effects of the contraction and expansion configurations of stimuli-responsive polymers, combined with the hybridization-dehybridization event of DNA strands.
