The objective of this study was to apply the specific acid-catalysed hydrolysis of ethyl acetate to completing solvent extraction during an emulsion-based microencapsulation process. The dispersed phase consisting of poly-D,L-lactide-co-glycolide and ethyl acetate was emulsified in an acid catalyst containing aqueous phase. Catalytic hydrolysis of ethyl acetate led to its continual leaching from the dispersed phase of the emulsion, thereby triggering microsphere hardening with high efficiency. Ketoprofen was successfully encapsulated into microspheres via this technique, and liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry showed that its structural integrity was preserved during microencapsulation. Compared to typical solvent extraction approaches, the acid-catalysis technique helped minimize the consumption of a quench liquid. Also, the resultant microspheres displayed excellent dispersibility and decreased propensity for aggregation. Furthermore, the new method provided better drug encapsulation efficiency and lower levels of residual ethyl acetate in microspheres. In conclusion, the acid-catalysis approach had great potential for the preparation of versatile microspheres and nanoparticles.

Ice wine is produced from concentrated grape juice obtained by the natural freezing and pressing of grapes. The high sugar content of this juice has an impact on fermentation. To investigate the impact of the initial sugar concentration on the fermentation of ice wine, the initial sugar concentration of Vidal ice grape juice was adjusted to 370, 450, 500 and 550 g/L by the addition of glucose.

The FDA "Food and Drug Administration" recently approved a novel co-crystal formulation of Celecoxib (CEX) and Tramadol (TRM) for the treatment of adults suffering from moderate to severe pain in several conditions. This novel combination has advantages over co-administration of the two drugs individually as better patient compliance, synergism and lower therapeutic cost. This work presents the first "High performance Thin Layer Chromatographic" (HPTLC) quantitative analytical technique for CEX and TRM simultaneous assay in bulk, their new dosage form and plasma.

The effect of solvents with different polarities on the recovery of phytochemicals (carotenoids, capsaicinoids, and phenolic compounds) from habanero pepper (Capsicum chinense) and their association with antioxidant activity (ABTS and DPPH) was evaluated through Ultra-Performance-Liquid Chromatography coupled with a Photodiode Array Detector and a Electrospray Ionization Mass Spectrometry (UPLC-PDA-ESI-MS)-based chemometric analysis, including linear correlation, multiple linear regression, and principal component analysis (PCA). The solvent polarity scale was established according to solvent dielectric constants (ɛ). Color variation (ΔE) was used to determine the presence of carotenoids, with the highest ΔE obtained using low-polarity solvents (hexane and ethyl acetate).

It is crucial to investigate new anti-diabetic agents and therapeutic approaches targeting molecules in potential signaling pathways for the treatment of Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). The objective of the study was to investigate the total phenolic content, antioxidant capacity, α-glucosidase, and α-amylase inhibitory activities of Bolanthus turcicus (B. turcicus), as well as their cytotoxic, anti-adipogenic, anti-diabetic, apoptotic, and anti-migration potential on adipocytes.

An electrochemical investigation of 1,2- and 1,4-dihydroxybenzenes was carried out with platinum macro- and microelectrodes using square wave and cyclic voltammetry techniques. Furthermore, the effect of the two solvents-acetic acid and ethyl acetate-was compared. When using square wave voltammetry, signals only appeared at lower frequencies and only when the supporting electrolyte was in excess, as expected due to the relatively low permittivity of the used solvents.
