The aim of this study was to determine the epidemiology of influenza infection among patients with influenza-like illness by real-time RT-PCR in southern Thailand from August 2009 to January 2011. The predominant strain in Thung Song District was influenza A. Sporadic cases of influenza occured year round but the incidence peaked from August to November 2009 and July to November 2010. During August to November 2009, pandemic H1N1 (pH1N1) activity was observed along with a low level of seasonal influenza co-circulation. Subsequently, seasonal influenza (H3) activity increased and became the predominant influenza strain, with co-circulation with pH1N1 and influenza B during the 2010 influenza season. Continual surveillance of influenza activity is useful for public health planning in southern Thailand and plays a major role in future influenza control and prevention measures.

One of the consequences of the COVID-19 lockdown is that it hinders school-based dengue management interventions. This is due to the closure of schools and the limited availability of online lessons in certain schools. Conversely, the level of basic understanding that primary school children have about the condition is directly related to their likelihood of getting it and their ability to modify their behaviour to prevent it.

The Lue ethnic group, which speaks a language that is part of the broader Tai-Kadai linguistic family, extends from Southern China to upper Southeast Asia. Their migration to Northern Thailand exemplifies how migration patterns influence genetic diversity in populations of Thailand. To delve deeper into their genetic history, we generated 144 mitochondrial HVR-1 sequences from three Lue populations and combined them with data obtained from related ethnic groups.

Background: Living near waste incineration plants (WIPs) may have adverse effects on health associated with quality of life (QOL) among local residents. This study was undertaken to measure the QOL of residents living near WIPs in China, identify the association between residential distance from the WIPs and QOL, and assess the mediating effect of respiratory symptoms on the association between residential distance and QOL.
Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted in communities surrounding three municipal WIPs in Dongguan, China.
